Congrats to you and cometer :)

I've lost in Belgie, again. Guess I need to try in another country :(

Cheers, no rest now either, got only a handful of days to prepare for Belgie as langhe of all things won the elections in Belgie. No doubt he'll be out to revenge those 7 and 6 goal losses we gave Indonesia with a payback of his own. I've never been beaten by more than 5 goals, so maybe he can hit me with my worst defeat as payback.

We've got an even shorter period of time for the U21's as their 1st game is this Friday, so I'll have to fire off the db to Tigermaster so he at least has a temporary workable skill set. I think though we'll end up moving to the online NTDB primarily as it makes things so much easier for updating and managers don't need to constantly fire off copies of the database. Also I believe we should have both U21 and senior players in the same database as before anyway. I'd still keep a manual backup though.

From what I've seen of our likely U21 this season, we've got reasonable players but lack any significant strike force which could hurt. Means Tigermaster has to be on the ball with tactics to give us those chances, although working with Malaysia over the past seasons should significantly help the cause.

I guess the major thing I'd like to have setup by tomorrow is some sort of a squad of U21's and I'll get around to doing that later today. We will need to go scouting for some more players to try and improve the squad.

I wish Tigermaster all the best for the upcoming season. I really have no idea where our U21's sit in relation to everyone else, I've always thought pretty low but that's what most seem to be thinking atm.

I would probably recommend Tigermaster look for the majority of friendlies that we'd have a chance of winning, although ranking would be nice, I don't think it's going to mean much when everyone is trying the same thing thus making the rankings skewed anyway. Will take a season or two to iron out the top quality sides in U21.

up for the new season. My speech is on the 1st post and it's been modified to reflect this campaign :).

How boring! :P

We all know you were going to run and will go on and win pretty much uncontested :P

Goodluck regardless!
2009-05-02 09:24:36
I was going to run this season regardless to be there to help those replacing you as U21 manager :p. I also would like one more crack at a world cup ;).

I voted yesterday I think...
It's so predictable :)
2009-05-02 10:02:33
currently it is, but then again when is the last time I actually had a competitor in elections who actually spent the time in the forums before the election?

I think that eliminates about 99% of competition, the fact they show no interest in the NT until it's elections.

Whilst nobody decent runs I'm not prepared to hand in the towel so we take a backwards step like NZ did.

There we go that's my 3rd excuse for running :p. Wonder how many more I can come up with ;).

Wow, seven seasons in charge. I think the breath of fresh air must be well and truly stale by now, eh? ;)

Why do none of the other senior australian managers go for the job?
2009-05-02 11:15:44
Prior to this season its been the time commitment. I also don't think I'm that great on the defensive side of my tactics. Good enough for A-League, but not for the next level.

This time around its because I'm going to Europe for 2 months in June and July.
2009-05-02 11:20:26
Cos they are all scared of Cometer :P And he does a good job at what he does! What would you consider a "senior" manager? and AL Manager? If so,

Tribe - Travelling
TBF - Barely active
Comets - Speaks for its self
Frogs - Travelling
TMP - Helping Minkee with U21's this season (as far as I know)
Roar - Bit more active than TBF but wasnt a fan of NT duties when he started with India
Achmid - Active, but over the ME, not enough time to run the NT
SLTFATF - Not as active as he was, and may not have the time for the NT

Yeah I have to agree.

Cometer does such a good job on the communication side of things. His tactical knowledge built up over the 7 seasons in the job is now world class. It would be nice to see something of a succession plan if/when he feels like standing down, but I feel we already have that in TM and now with vivski & minkee stepping up I feel like the national team duties are in good hands.

Essentially, it ain't broke.
2009-05-02 11:34:36
I don't think the door is closed...

TM will come back from Europe and so will you. Achmid is in the background giving a hand when he can. Cometer is who he is and as long as he has the will and time to do it we can only learn from him.
2009-05-02 13:50:32
With the introduction of the U21's we've got a much better chance of putting in a succession plan to take over if/when I step down. I'm hoping that if vivski/Minkee run this season I can pass on some of my knowledge to build up their skills incase they want to take over at some stage. Tigermaster has already got the skills from a few seasons of managing Malaysia and now Aus U21's. Achmid definitely has the skills but lacks the time so I'm more than happy to have him assist where and when he can/wants to.

Wow, seven seasons in charge. I think the breath of fresh air must be well and truly stale by now, eh? ;)

Each season has been different. Look at the players we've got now as opposed to 7 seasons ago and there's been massive improvement. Last season had the introduction of U21's as well. So whilst it's been a long time at the front, there certainly hasn't been a stale moment. I admit I prefer the WCQ season to that of friendlies as there's something massive at stake but the MWC is a good substitute along with matches against NZ :).

I think it sums it up for my part. I would have loved the job, but when I was a student.
If I where to take the job now I would have needed an assistant to do all the scouting and talking with other managers (training potential players).

I would now only consider myself as an emergency solution for one season, but it's great to know we have someone stepping up.
