Asunto: »S16 - State Cup III - Round Robin

2009-03-18 14:43:51
Just remember, sometimes teams forget to play their 2nds, I've done it at least once in every season I've played
2009-03-18 14:58:36
Others don't have 2nd's, CL being one of them. I disagree about a penalty system, it's pretty obvious which sides use 1st XI's so you mix and match a little bit. The Cup has similar things where sides choose to play 1st XI's. Whilst I agree training is an important part, I don't think penalizing teams will help too much.

Game is all about trade-offs. Do you win at all costs and sacrifice the long term gains for short term or do you focus on training with long term in mind.

Tbh had I not been training midfielders/strikers atm I'd have been playing mostly 1st string players, I did last season except I did the minimum amount of reserves necessary to get all my trainees training.
2009-03-18 22:49:50
Apart from my striker trainee's the rest of my team is first 11, obviously that changes depending on what I'm training.

Haven't watched the game but didn't expect to trouble you on the scoresheet. I stuffed up my subs from my league match and if it wasn't for an injury to Langdon on Sunday the best striker I would of had on the park would of been VG coupled together with an adequate and average.

CL has 19 players and didn't say anything about using a 1st XI... That's already 2 things. A warning would have gone a long way...

Using 1st XI is a reason I have been given for not joining the SC this season and also on previous occasions. Although I can accept it happens on the last two final rounds I find it against the spirit of the rules. I don't want people to take advantage of the situation as well.
Vivski and I struggled to get 24 users so if we can reach more people we will do something.

We are only talking about it so far but we're monitoring it this season. What we came up with so far was just to give 1 or 2 goals away when there was a big difference in average team marks. It wouldnt have changes the result yesterday but it might do in some cases.

That said we wouldnt do something that goes against the general opinion and anyone's comments are welcome to make this comp progress... :)

Yeah, I know it can get frustrating but you don't have to have 11 trainees on the pitch either unless you're training pace. Maximum for everything else should be 5 leaving you 6 spots for 1st squad players if you choose to. That's how I've always operated and I don't think I should be penalised 1-2 goals because usually my trainee strikers can't score enough and my defense gets reasonably strong marks to lift the average mark rating.

I guess there's 2 sides to that in that since I'm using a strong defense I should be able to prevent them scoring, so it's an interesting call either way.

I care nothing for friendlies and the like, only for training my players. It's nice having a State Cup thingy, but i wont try to win one of the games by sacrificing my training.

The trash talk
WA maintains its form and it shows in the standings... NZ, QLD and Victoria follow a bit behind.
This week saw some good old school trashings in nearly every groups as well as some "valium" type game like the one between Snappa S. and The Comets (0-0). No real suprises this week although Trigger Lads did well vs SLTFATF with a respectable 2-3 scoreline...

ugh, on hindsight i just found out that i missed out on a player for the friendly. he could've stepped in for ellem and received training :(

I don't understand how this happens. My team played well.
Considering the tactics and the run of play, I would have felt unlucky to concede 1 goal. So how did we concede 3? Frustrating to say the least.

I'm doing the update tonight if it's any consolation... :p
I'll watch my game first...

Yeah, I'll get over it. Had my little whinge. :P

What has me more gutted is the 19-day injury to Bolton, my gun 20yo. It's 3 very important training sessions he'll miss, on top of the red card limiting his training last week. *grumble*

Hope everyone else had a better game. :)

not really... I was bored out of my tities with mine... I had to speed it up to make it look half interesting!

Round 3 Final Scores:

GrA:
Richmond Tigers FC 0-4 The Invincibles
Team Moose Power 3-3 wicked 11
DVS_Strikers 0-5 Krayzee Coconuts

GrB:
Snappa Serpents 4-1 C.N.F
The Comets 6-0 Dragons United
Baldivis FC. 0-3 Larikan FC

GrC:
Tong FC 0-6 Left Footers
Tribe 15-0 Canberra
Achmids Soul 9-0 DAU

GrD:
Da Minkees 0-1 Real Galah
Cumlionibus 8-0 Triggers Lads
Jatt`s Team 1-2 SLTFATF

--------------------------------------------
Le Trash Talk of the Week:
- GrA is pretty much sorted, TMP will have to surrender its crown as it has very little chance to make the State Cup final. That spot will very likely be attributed to the winner of Ze Invicibles-Krayze next week.
- GrB is tight at the top with Snappa, Larikan and Ze Comets fighting for the ultimate glory of clinching a spot for the SC final... It looks like Cometer has the easiest draw and should top the group but we've seen them stumble before so we won't say anything until the fat lady sing something deafening...
- GrC should as well be decided next week with the usually soporific encounter between Tribe and Achmids. Noticeably though Tribe is awarded the "spanker of the week" award for demolishing Canberra 15-0 today and save DAU the embarrassment of being mentioned here for losing 8-0 (sorry couldnt help it mate!)
- GrD will see a fight to the finish between Real Galah, Cumlionibus and SLTFATF. The 3 others teams having decided to pack up and go camping...

After recent sales my squad is a little smaller than usual (meaning I had to play more 1st teamers to maximize training). I also tried a relatively untried tactic. Almost everything clicked for my guys and Canberra's lineup wasn't strong at all, which all added up to a very one-sided encounter.
