Luke Barnes should be coming along okay? I think he's the only decent striker in his age group (21, 22, 23).

drum is probably our best hope for the near future... :(

Alagich came close. 68's,69's. He only needs more striking and he'll challenge for honours and he's 26. Just don't know if he's being trained now though after selling him off last season. He had like 2x magical for pace/tech and also had defensive skills.

WICKED AWESOME!

Nice reward for the many hours I've spent (wasted?) on this game over the last 4 years.

I've held it for most of the past 2 seasons since taking it off Tribe. Time for a new change at the top :).

But you got it through dominance in div II than managed to hold on to it. Vivski managed to get it whilst being in A-League. Good achievement to get the top, but vivskis road to the top was much more impressive

I extended it in A League, what are you on about haha. Up until the start of this season I had a lead of about 300 ranking points over Tribe due to Tribes poor start last season. When I came to A League I had a lead of less than 100. This isn't an exaggeration either. You could do back checking if you'd like ;).

Though I really don't know why I'm even trying to argue because ranking points are so easy to accumulate. So when talking about strongest teams, vivski would be right up there atm after only losing to me last season and so far a flawless run this season.

Yeah I meant the accumulation path he took was much more impressive getting most of his points against A-League teams rather than stacking on div II teams, as we can see happening with A-League teams that drop down for a season, and with the long standing top div II teams. But to be in first, you still need to have a good team, and a good couple of seasons

Yep, I look back through my team's history with a fair bit of pride. League II.03 was a tough school!

I was disappointed to bounce in my first season of A-League. I was so close to hanging in, but that also allowed me to galvanise the team for a proper attack on the A-League when we re-promoted.

Since then, my only disappointment is that I think the strength of the league isn't quite what it could be. We've lost several managers who could be making it a real struggle just to stay in the A-League, let alone finish up the top. I really hope we can build the community so that in a few seasons, we can have some more depth. There are several teams with the potential to really bolster the strength of the league for the next few seasons.

It's a shame that some other teams who've done the hard yards to make the top, haven't used those foundations to cement themselves there long-term. I'm looking at Bears, PRT, TBF & Roar. I've had the opportunity to compete against Comets and Tribe at close to their prime... I regret not having the chance to do the same with the aforementioned ex-powerhouses. But that's the nature of these things... life comes along and re-prioritises things for you.

Just noticed that Stewart is over 3Mill value, probably only happened in the last update or two. Definitely the first player I have trained up to that mark.

I should probably stop training him when he next pops in pace... but I'm considering giving my guys another level of tech before switching to something else. Defenders maybe? I haven't trained defenders yet... I'm not sure I could make myself play with 5 guys on defensive orders though :|

2010-09-13 10:24:41
Well if you wanted to switch from midfielders but didn't want to use defensive formations, you could always go back to strikers I guess. Your call, I'd stick with mids though.
2010-09-13 11:00:46
I dunno.

If I want to stick with Mids I have to sell off my current group (probably the best thing to do $$$-wise) and then I have to chase the best younger aussie mids around... which runs me into you (amongst other managers). Or alternatively I could train non Australians for a while, but I have tried to train mostly aussies my whole career... so yeah, I'm a bit undecided at the moment. The last few seasons transfers (and lack thereof) has really showed that and I'm probably going to have to go through a rebuild phase in the near future as a result.

I'd suggest starting with what you already have. If you have 3-4 trainable guys, then start the rotation from there. You can make DEF orders work for you. With your squad's ability, it wouldn't be too punishing to play DMs with DEF orders.

Loving the rise of the two-winger tactics I am seeing about the place.

Stewart is a beast!

In other news I might be just about done with pace training.
