Coach pull wet dream for a midfield trainer. Got sick of bidding on overpriced brilliant coaches for an assistant and thought I would give coach pulling a go. 2nd try :)

nice! My head coach is exactly the same with 1 less in striker and a few less in stamina and as a result has only 59k wage per week so yours is very similar to mine. Better in terms of skills though.

not so good if you wanted to train playmaking though or wanted to have higher tactical discipline ;).

Otherwise that's a very impressive coach.

Your coach is a human being, at some moment he may finish his coaching career. Do not be surprised when your aged coach hands you his notice and leaves for well-deserved retirement in Bermuda.

I hadn't realised this rule had come in. Anyone had a retirement yet?
2010-11-20 14:58:57
The rule hasn't come in. It's another of those poorly worded things in the rules that imply something that actually doesn't happen. As far as I know it's written in case they ever decide to implement something in that area.

I've never trained playmaking since I've joined and intend to carry on like that for a very long time :)

I didn't think I'd ever train PM, but I ended up doing a season of it so my DEFs would not be such numpties on the ball. As a result, I can now happily play them as wingbacks and they qualify for the NT.

PM is one of those qualities you can neglect in div 2, but it's an important skill for A-League players.

Having said that, if I had to choose to neglect one skill in my squad, it would be PM.

I don't deny it's useful otherwise players wouldnt have the skill but I just don't want to train too many skills. Plus it's one I believe can be compensated by technique and a good tactic that can cope with a bit of time loss due to the player not reacting so quick... I seem to remember this winger I had in the U21 squad, he was full of secondaries and making a killing each time.
But you're probably right in the AL you probably need it to fight for the tittle considering the level at the top end.
2010-11-21 02:43:53
Yeah I use to think technique could compensate but I don't think it does anymore. The ability to knock balls around all over the field quickly or fire a through pass straight through the central defense is pretty important to put strong defenses out of position. Pretty hard to put defenses out of position with a lack of pm, the only real option is to beat a defender with a winger and that's not necessarily that easy to do these days either with most top sides using a back 5.

The other thing I like about high playmaking is the ability from throws to cross almost immediately even with a defender standing right on the spot. The number of goals that come from those crosses I would imagine to be a high %.

In saying that, you can get away with a little less PM then some of the other key skills. I wouldn't go so far as saying if I had to neglect one skill it would always be PM though. I value it as important as everything else.

67.4 avg ratings in div II when the only side in Australia achieving higher marks is Tribe, the defending A League champions. Still can't score enough goals for my liking though.

Sorry to hear about the PRT great's love life :P

I have a better Terje. Pushing 40 rating in games as a striker and with a talent of low to mid 3's. He is going to be a monster :)

Terje Hirons 18 outstanding [12] outfield 4

Pulled an unearthly coach tonight first try and wasn't even trying (had keeper at outstanding). They are pretty hard to get aren't they?
