Asunto: S18 - Australia Cup
I still believe in having stock tactics as they're pretty valuable, but I also do believe that it's useful to mix it up a little from time to time. That way it's a lot harder for opposition to make a specific custom tactic to take out a particular tactic.
A stock tactic doesn't need to be modified too much, a few throw in positions, slight difference in striker runs, winger positions etc, depth of defense. All these little things can alter a game. The tactic I used against you was really my stock 4-3-1-2 with a winger, that had a few significant changes to attempt to counter yours.
So yeah having a stock tactic is very useful as if you get that consistently effective, small tweaks here and there can often produce another similar but different customised tactic in which the result can be a totally different outcome.
Still it's nice to be able to be flexible and come up with completely different and customised tactics and it certainly is the case that a customised tactic in general is better than a stock tactic if the customised tactic takes advantage of the opposition stock tactic being almost the same.
All I needed to unstick that entire plan was one of my defenders or midfielders to get injured or a defender sent off and it would have been a different game. My depth atm is reasonably shallow but I'll be looking to boost that shortly.

Well its the big game tonight. Comets vs Frogs. Its the final that we both wanted - The smack talk has started.. trying to Psych each other out. There has always only ever been one goal between the two teams whenever they have played against each other.
I suppose you could call it that although I'm trying to downplay my chances :p.
As far as I'm aware nobody has won consecutive Australia Cups so you're on the verge of breaking that.
I'll try to win, no doubt about that, but I don't know if I can topple the two powerhouses of last season in consecutive weeks.
Can at least give it a crack :).
Hope it's an interesting final anyway. Good luck for the match.

Haha yeah, that's probably going to be the highlight of my night :p.
Frogs have a pretty wicked lineup if you exclude their keeper and their strikers. Mangos,Morton,Neill,Adkins,Lascarescu and Baronio are just some of the quality they have at their disposal, I could easily add a few more.
Any injury at all unless its a striker and I'm caught short, don't have any depth to my side at all atm. My 1st XI picks itself.
If I can escape injuries then it could be interesting. 1 hour to go still :(.

cup final to be played under heavy showers and heavy clouds. How appropriate :).
I am planning to watch the game, at least part of this. CSI: New York is more important though:)
Good luck!
Good luck!
:D. History never lies. No Australian team has won the cup on consecutive occasions and The Comets have never lost a cup final after beating Tribe and progressing to the final.
Very close game though and I'm delighted to have won :).

Congrats Cometer and commiserations tiger. Could have gone either way. Massive achievement just to make it to the final I reckon.
Nice work cometer; and I suppose you're thinking "about time too!".
that makes two of us with increases in fan mood ;)
Something like that. 2006 to 2009 is a long time between drinks in Sokker.
Perhaps I am ready to take on the A League again, I've knocked off 2 of the stronger A League sides in consecutive weeks.
I always thought I'd need 2 seasons to regroup (spending 1 season in the A League itself) but it seems my limitations in midfield are still strong enough to supply the quality strikers ball.

haha yeah but unlike some 1 loss can send me all the way back down towards the bottom ;).
I thought Frogs had it sorted in the first half. They kept getting the ball out wide and creating chances. That dried up in the second half and Comets eventually found a way through the middle.
Of course stomping Baronio after just 6 minutes was also a solid tactical decision :P

Nice game. Conservative strategies. Frogs were unfortunate not to break the Comets line more often. And Comets finally got their chance to strike up the middle through Paredes.
Very even game, congrats to Comets.

Yeah but I was hoping it was Lascarescu instead in that position. Has more tech then Baronio. I think they'd have struggled to get chances had they not been wise to make the switch.
I had Erdogan stomped on too, so I consider it even. Player for player.
I felt even in that first half that whilst they created a couple of chances, most of them were half chances and the cracks were beginning to open when I fired a through pass for our only chance of the half which 9/10 should have ended in the back of the net given the keeper came out off his line against a magical+ striker.
I knew if I could ride out the first half I'd come over the top in the 2nd, particularly when I brought on fresh legs who had more pace then their defenders did, which was a critical tactical move in the end as once Bowen came on we suddenly got multiple chances and he scored the winner and arguably set up our first.
Usually that's how pressing works, you either get killed in the first half or you come around and clean em up in the 2nd half as your press starts catching tired men out. At least that's how I've always found it to be.
Think if you count the shot count after 49min they had 7 shots to 2 and it was just 1-0. A few of those were sprayed from range though. Once we got the upper hand on tackling Lascarescu the game swung and it swung quite quickly I felt.
