Asunto: Australia Cup

2012-02-29 14:46:45
i think this may have been the furthest i've ever gotten in the cup
2012-02-29 22:30:26
Congrats if it is.
The round last night is really the first semi-competitive round, where all the ex-great teams, or u and coming ones play the top teams, then this next round coming, contains the best teams in Australia, where there are no easy wins for anyone.

Agreed. Last nights round is where you need to think whether it's worth using 1sts or 2nds. From now on unless you're lucky it requires as many 1sts as possible.

Happy drawing DAU. Krayzees would have been ideal but at least recently I've had a reasonable record against DAU. I've also got the luxury of playing 2nds against Snappa who will be without 3 players due to suspensions due to the cup match and a few injuries on top in the league.

I'm looking forward to travel to Steel Fury. It will be a good tactical battle again I'm sure with plenty of goals I hope!

Infuriated

Destroyed what appeared to be DAU's training side, both on the scoreboard and on the field. Not quite like when they had 4 send offs but 2 send offs and a 33 day injury is close especially when the scoreboard this time reads 15-0. Did wonders for my supporter mood ahead of sponsorship payments on Saturday.

Semi final for yet another season. TMP or Minkees, I'd know who I'd rather face but both will prove to be difficult. History suggests that the 'randomisation' usually favours the switch, so 1 plays 3 and 2 plays 4 but now that I've said that it won't :p.

lol thanks for using your full team, you should have known i was never going to use my full team.....

good thing the red carded and injured players were backups, not first teamers

I haven't seen the game but like the final score...
Another injury to a key player, that's four now... That just ends up any hopes of doing well in the 1/2.

Griffiths 17 days
Ielati 8days
Tymrovski SI
Vujkovic 18days
Szprega on a red card

Looks like my 2nd gk might get some game time this sunday :p

Should be relatively even then.
Mrdja (#1 def) - out
Paluch (#1 mid at present but only just to form) - out

Also have a red card, but of course, like your red card and SI, will be fine by next week

I wouldn't complain :p. After drawing TMP it's not the ideal scenario as I've struggled the last few times I've played them. At least it's not the same 2 teams in the final this season. I expect I might be up against it this week but we'll see.

You'll be in the final... too many injuries and no time to do anything. Last week in Qld for me; too much to organise!

Even with a full squad I wouldnt rate my chances against your squad, Cometer's or Vivski's yet... it's too early.
That said I'm pleased I made it to the last four for the first time, it means we're progressing which is always good to see (though I realise some people have dropped off too but eh... I took advantage of the opportunity!!).

You definitely deserved to be in the top 4, although I'd say you have some tight competition for that position, and who gets the 4th position in the future will be just as interesting as who wins the cup
2012-03-11 16:53:56
Glad to make it to the last 4, at the expense of my A-League title hopes. After the first round calamity, I decided to focus on Cup and training. So hopefully we can get past Comets this week.
I have a feeling Comets will be too strong, but we'll give it a crack.

I disagree, last few meetings we've been evenly matched. I don't have 2 of my midfield set, so my marks should fall back towards yours. Would not put it passed you to win this as lately I find it difficult to stop you scoring. Good luck for the match.

Squeezed home in the end. Tight contest that either side could have won. The tactical switches worked well in the end thankfully as I was concerned about whether reducing my defense would work or whether my tactical switches and sub would execute as planned and was hoping Erdogan wouldn't be the one subbed. It paid dividends as it brought about the winning goal and created a few opportunities around the edge of the defense I wasn't generating prior.

Although, I think the switch from vivski fell more in my favour as it put Cernikovas away from the free side and into a position where he was marked.

Comets v Achmids in the final then. This would have to be my first home cup match in seasons if not years. Looking forward to it. May the best side win.

For a while there I thought things might be going my way. Unfortunately, you scored the goal to level the score, that triggered my tactical change. Happy with the performance of Petkaris, 2nd string GK filling in for injured van Hese. Shame Cucciardi couldn't put the pen in... he's usually good from spot-kicks.

On balance though, your team was the better on the day. There were some parts of your tactic I really liked. It was quite defensive, but that's fitting against my offensive tactic. You controlled the 1st half but didn't create too much. Then as the game progressed, it opened up and both teams had good chances.

Well done. Good luck for the final.
