Asunto: Australia Cup
LOL Lagrange LOL. That is a sacking offense. I wouldn't even transfer list him.
Well after 2 consecutive Cup runners up, that is a very satisfying win. Especially after winning such an epic battle between the two current power houses of Australian Sokker.
The tactics played by both teams were well worn and almost completely nullified each other winners and it turned into a slog. Steel Fury scored a lovely goal early with Strzelec skipping past a few on the wing before playing a lovely calm ball to the feet of Gian at the front post who smashed it in top corner. At this point, let me note that Gian is in perfect form for the first time at Steel Fury after being carried for the many seasons. The trench warfare then settled in with both teams creating the odd good chance when nothing coming of it. It looked like the game was SF's until the 86th minute when a beautiful cross to the back post isolated a low form defender against 2 stacked strikers. The old double tackle insured and a penalty was given. No worry.... they are hard to score and BANG straight onto the post. Then follows the excuriating wait whilst watching live as the striker runs to the ball and the keeper gets up and runs. Striker got there first... BANG. GOAL. extra time and another Cup seemingly thrown away.
Not wanting a penatly shoot out with SF's history of missed penalties, I had an absolute kamakaze tactic ready to go off at 100 minutes if drawing. Luckily on 97th minute, Gian, of all people, the fat bstard of Brisbane, the joke of sokkeroos, miraculously skips past about 5 tackles. I could hear vivski swearing at this point. With the whole 5 man backline prostrate on the ground, Gian goes through on goal... the man who in living memory has never slotted a one-on-one absolutely buries it. What a goal!
With a history of shutting out TMP opportunities, I settled down in the knowledge we could probably hold them out although with 2 badly out of form defenders, nothing was certain. The clock ticks to 117, 118, 119, 120! At that point I realised the game ends after 120, not on 120. The ball goes into me out of form defender and in a second Legrange is onto him and takes the ball. This in the fastest Legrange has ever run because none of the other 4 defenders got anywhere near him. At this point I am now swearing... BANG - he doesn't even hit the target. LOL. Poor Legrange. Forever remembered as the man who threw away the Season 30 Australia Cup.
Steel Fury wins their first Cup. Well deserved after a powerful few seasons as the top rating team in Australia.

That was an epic struggle between two very strong teams. After the tactical switch, I wasn't sure we could score, but I knew it would at least be even. Both teams created a few well worked chances (nothing comes for free) and couldn't convert. Then in extra time it was anyone's game!
I thought my defenders could look after a tiring Gian, and my aggressive front line tends to brute-force its way through tiring back lines at the end of games. Your defence was collecting yellows and a red could've changed the game.
Gian made an absolutely sensational run and surely the best and most important goal of his career. The players he evaded are superb defenders. And then as Lagrange went clean through on 120', I was thinking "here we go... pens!"
Shame he missed it, pens would have been a fitting end to what I thought was a very even game. But definitely a deserved Cup win by uber.
I feel my defence is still world class, but my AM and winger don't have quite the edge that Cernikovas and Cucciardi had. They were top top players, club heroes. Without that edge, I probably need to come up with an uber tactic for our next encounter.
Credit to you uber, tactically and squad wise you're half a notch higher at the moment. The silverware starting to weigh down your trophy cabinet is proof of that.
Well done. Too good.

I wouldn't say too good, just more clinical this time. Our teams are very, very even. The closeness of the games is especially not helped by myself always setting up tactics to stop you rather than beat you. It makes for very close games.
I'm looking forward to our return league game already.

Gian 0/17. Cost a couple of juniors 20 mins training. One of the more frustrating players of my time in sokker.
Unfortunately had no strikers, with striker and back up strikers out.

Managed to got over Larikan without strikers and a full reserve team.
Don't think that'll get the job done against Punjabi Kings.
