Asunto: Australia Cup

2020-10-09 08:09:00
He actually has the potential to be the number 1 Australian side (and could have been if he wanted for the past 10-15 seasons) with his bank balance, but until we all started coming back, he had taken a massive back foot step, quitting without actually quitting.

Over the history of Australian Sokker, he is one of the hardest teams to beat, and strongest we have had, so really, we are all at his mercy for if and when he decides to return properly.

Already he has made enough buys that he is probably #2 in the country, and only time will tell whether he decides to become #1 or not

Hmm, the next 2 rounds will be really interesting. I had always thought that Chelsea FC, your club and UKmerges were the best but now it looks like a quartet like it was in EPL previously with Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Could be more than those 4 as well depending on if another club splashes money. In theory in probably a year or two from now it very well might be a 7-8 way battle for the league although obviously those with money will still be more sustainable then those without.

Yeah, was just referring to the present situation. Also, there are already 2 bots in the top league and with the vast number of users, it should be proper 8 real players in the top league but I get that many have just recently joined.

Yeah I think the Australian League is quite interesting really.

Chelsea #1 active team in Aus for the past many seasons - done an amazing job staying #1 and still training players and keeping a strong team as best he can given the limitations of an almost dead country

Ukes #2 team - only team to be able to put up a fight against Chelsea up until a few seasons ago. Just was never active enough/language barrier to learn the intricacies to become even better.

Achmids Soul - New and upcoming team trying to close the gap fast but still lacks the funds to have a consistent crack at any of the titles. Previously very experienced, known as being one of the best tacticians in Australia in the past, but also known for copping the short straw vs cometer :P

Tribe - #1 potential with a Bill Gates-esque bank balance. Only thing that stopped him from being the most dominant the past 30 seasons was a reduction in interest/real life.

When you think of dominant teams in Australia Sokker ancient history, you think Jyukenbu, Punt Road tigers, The Black Flashes, Tribe. Then Tribe probably also fits in to the modern history great teams along with Comets, Team Moose Power, Steel Fury, Achmids Soul with honourable mentions to Frogmeisters, Chelsea FC, Tong, Melbourne Magpies, Devil's Angels United, and then you get the Recent history with absolute dominance by Steel fury (early recent history) and Chelsea Fury (late recent history).

There have been many other great teams in this period, a couple that come to mind include Gondor Guardians, Sheffield Wednesday, Isla De Muerta, FCM Tigers, Forest Green Rovers, and Coca Kickers, but I reckon the ones above really were the dominant or very much always in the battle teams for their respective eras.

I mean if you throw PRT into the ancient history, I think in many ways you could put myself in there as well as that was on a similar time period as when I first had success. I think I probably had longer lasting success later on (like a second bite of the cherry) during Australia's best era for users.

That being said, those left in the cup deserve to be there and are at present the best we've got in the country without a doubt and will be for some considerable time to come and it's a real pain one can't watch cup matches without plus.

Have a soft spot for Chelsea FC since I used to support Chelsea since I was a kid until I stopped following EPL altogether. But I also love to support the underdogs so I'll also root for Achmids Soul along with the bottom real user teams.

Might arrange a friendly with teams of my level in the future who play in the second division in Australia. You up for it cometer?

Yeah was doing it all off memory and how I personally think about it off the top of my head. I'm sure with adequate reminders and prompts, I would change some things for sure.

I like reading Chelseas "current" news article, I was his first A-League win :'D It was like the start of the changing of the guard
2020-10-09 11:08:24
I'm sure the Magpies or Comets could afford to use 2nds in their League match at some stage and take you on with 1sts
2020-10-09 11:11:47
Yeah, these would be interesting cross-country games.
2020-10-09 11:21:18
Yeah, because my cup run was something like

4th round (1st season I played)
SF (Bronze)
5th round
Winner (Gold)
Runner Up (Silver)

Early A League for me was
5th
1st
3rd (1pt off 2nd)
4th
1st

So really within my first decade of playing I'd already wrapped up 2 A League titles and got all 3 versions of the cup.

@KautukP - yep, always happy for a friendly anytime, whenever :).

Fair point. Not sure if you rebuilt after that, or everyone else just got stronger to give more competition, but my memory was you knocked out a couple of unexpected, unseen wins, then came back a number of seasons later to be properly always in the top few teams vying for that title.

But obviously from your stats, I am remembering this a little wrong
2020-10-09 11:40:56
Yeah after those seasons in the cup I went on to endure a "5th round exit" curse which probably lasted 8-9 seasons and that was around the time I was yo-yoing a bit between A League and II, which is probably what you remember.

Yeah, 7 times in a row out in the 5th round and 6 in a row of having not conceded a goal all cup until that round. Good times, well not really but I can see the funny side of it now.

I think we diced for a few seasons when first establishing in the A League, if memory serves me correct....especially cup games where the underdog (albeit slight) came out on top quite often.

I wish I had hung around, even if to just keep youths going & building a bank....but those running (or should that be "ruining") the game got under my skin too much, which was a shame. Once I'd won the cup, I'd had enough at the time, & was buggering off to live in Thailand so it slipped even further down the priority list.

Should be ok to play my "ones" in some friendlies v KautukP.....after not even realising I'd played my "2s" in last league game until afterwards. :D

I won't be able to play next week since I have a Cup game which will in all probability be my last since I'll be playing against the top user from my country. But I'll be able to play next to next week and I can arrange a friendly with one of you, maybe against fantum first since he wants to rectify that one recent training blip and then in the following week I can play against cometer. Of course, it's all based on your availability as well.

I'm planning to sell Bereczki next Thursday who is one my top mid and has been with me for more than 1.5 seasons so that will be a big loss leading up to the games. That's because I'll be focusing on training the local youth players in the future and I have to free up some spots. However, most of my other team will be intact so no problems about that.
