NT games: 697

As my squad enters another generation, I thought I should honour the players which have done the most for TMP over the years, before they all retire. No surprise it looks very similar to the team which won the double twice in 2011.

I can't remember the older winger stars...I know that there were North, Zdrillic...but who were the top 2 winger stars in old old days? Thompson? And?

Can't possibly not have Timpano and Baveas included in any list. Don't think we had too many wingers before North and Zdrilic as it wasn't really the era of wing play.

If I ever get my act together and update the db I was building I should then have a complete set. I have got every name of every player at least up until the beginning of 2011 and am able to query for just about anything that you can find off a match report with exception of injuries and minutes played.

If I was going on a club basis I'd have to go with something like the following:

GK: Emil Masi (Matei Gaina)
DEF: Risto Itapalo, Dubravko Makitan, Baykurt Erpence, Idelgar Romer, (Seman Aktimuroglu, Hayden Campbell)
MID: Mark Erdogan, Denis Stathakis, Vilmar Lesado, Carl O'Donoghue (Jade Graham, Jonah O'Toole)
ATT: George Bowen, Wayne Augerinos (Tama Kightley, Kristian Necevski)

That would be based on effectiveness given the circumstances and not purely based on strongest stats (otherwise it would be my current team now).

Broxton, Timpano, Baveas & Ando were my favourites.
Willis was an assist machine down the wing!

Looking back, Papaluca has been NT keeper since 2008. Unbelievable!

Hard to say who would make the team :p by skills, I think Stewart&Baveas [in the old times skills weren't that good:P I remember the strikers had excellent pace and technique]

still, Veart was my all time favourite central mid :p

All 4 are legends of Australian Sokker. They'll all be in the Hall of Fame (when we get around to creating one). ;)

Stewart - 119* (60-70 of those in db, excluding U21 NT fixtures)
Timpano - 92
Baveas - 86
Veart - 75

*current caps as of 2013, otherwise back to 2011. Also includes U21 matches.

Fair number of caps there too, all around the same. I'd be less inclined to go with Veart and stick with Stewart/Baveas/Timpano in that order but Timpanos from a much earlier time period so it's debatable whether Timpano was worth more than Stewart.

Pretty close. Stewart may have had more due to higher levels of defender and I'm trying to work out if Stathakis has more which I seem to recall is the case.

Edit: Yeah Stathakis has more skill points than Erdogan regardless of whether striking is considered or not.

3 in the midfield then, who gets the chop... Erdogan, Barnes or Amien?

Amien wouldn't make the cut for me as solid a player as he was. Byers would probably be my first choice, along with Barnes or Newhill.

As for the choice of who to chop, depends on the formation and on what match engine we're basing it off? The one where wingers dominate or the ones where wingers are redundant and strikers efficiencies are terrible or the one where wingers are redundant and strikers efficiencies are excellent.

Most of those defenders I'd put ahead of Midtsian and Mrdja and quite possibly even Morton.

Trying to pick 3 sides would be difficult. So much quality over the years and you get different sides depending on what criteria you set. Could be an interesting discussion ;).
