throwing some others in the hat that haven't seemed to be mentioned:
Tony Nikas (def)
Karl Pilic (def)
Lucas Howarth (def)
Stewart Balabanel (def)
Noah Faria (def)
Royce Beauchamp (mid)
Stuart Widera (mid)
Kris Hirons (att)
Most of those defenders I'd put ahead of Midtsian and Mrdja and quite possibly even Morton.
Trying to pick 3 sides would be difficult. So much quality over the years and you get different sides depending on what criteria you set. Could be an interesting discussion ;).

give me a few minutes and I'll work them out.
by WC are we including WCQ's and excluding MWC's?
Top 10 by goals for WC's and WCQ's: (edit: keep in mind this doesn't include the current few campaigns, so Barnes will not show in this list.)

Byers (32 matches), 77 goals, 249 shots
Kearton (13 matches), 28 goals, 70 shots
Hrehoresin (21 matches), 24 goals, 89 shots
Hirons (12 matches), 19 goals, 62 shots
Maras (15 matches), 14 goals, 66 shots
Amien (27 matches), 13 goals, 56 shots
Augerinos (7 matches), 13 goals, 30 shots

All good candidates for Hall of Fame.
Who was the most epic left back? Who would you aim to put on their winger?

from what I remember Widera was an amazing prospect, but got wasted due to bad/non existant training...right?
completely forgot about Hirons and Byers
ed: there was also Croxall :P

Hirons and Byers, yes. Up there with Maras.
I think Amien and Croxall were more club heroes than NT mainstays?

Croxall never made it big in the NT, but Amien skillwise was almost the same as Hrehoresin - though I think he was the first 'oh no, he missed again!' striker in Australian NT ;)

Tough one when excluding skills.
Howarth would come close:
59 matches, avg marks of 46, 7 fouls, 2 yellows, 0 red
Though it's a difficult ask because many of our quality central defs could also have been used as left back, such as Pilic,Nikas and E.Kohler.

I never liked Howarth as side defender due to his skills.
I remember one of the 'M'-defenders was my favourite side defs, but don't remember which one. Midtsian? Mangos? Morton?

And yet, he played most of his games there ;).

If we're going back in time you'll be talking about Mangos most likely as Morton and Midtsian are much more recent players.

I'm going for Italy :P
Haven't lost even a single game during 1st season there, I've beaten Nederland 3:1, beaten Sweden two times [3:1, 4:2], beaten Poland 4:1[!]...and still it looks like I might lose the elections:)

Unfortunately, Italy is so ... I'm sorry ... but some want at all costs an Italian coach. However, you still have a good chance of winning! Good luck! ;)
Surely you cant put the likes of Balabanel, Howarth, Nikas and Pilic ahead of Morton. Morton was Double SD by the time he was 21! The U21 team I had in the first season was epic! Stewart top of that list.
How about Wesley Lewis as GK as well? He did take Ando's place from memory

As I was saying, it completely depends on what criteria you set. In terms of skill set yeah definitely, I would include Morton, but I would also include the majority of the current side.
It's what makes this an interesting discussion because everyone has different opinions.
The reason I suggested the others was because they managed to survive a large number of seasons as front line defenders during a time when we had significant active users and sides were expanding rapidly.
Morton's come in for probably a similar time period but when active users have dropped away, defender trainers dropping away and when the side is much more stabilised.
I'm not claiming to be right here either, I haven't sat through and come up with an entire team, it was really reflecting on players in the past.
Lewis didn't last too long because he was overtaken by Pottier and I had thought Pottier was who replaced Ando but again Ando was one of the best GK's in the entire game at the time not just Australia. The remaining keepers didn't really reach that mark although Papaluca must have been pretty close in his time.
