Slight cock up with assigning 12 places first go....too long out of the game...forgetting max 6 assigned each week. Bit of a waste with 7 empty slots this week, plus 3 sackings from below, so might have to scale back by 4 slots for the coming week.

Bloody glad you decided to hang on to Collina :) Our number 1 defender for his age, and 3rd for U21's. Shows that with some talent, "poor" is worth keeping in the youth school (especially if they will graduate as an 18 or 19yo)

What strategy do you use for knowing who to keep and who to fire?

My current advice to new youth schools is to FIRE all Tragic/Hopeless/Unsatisfactory
And fire any 18+yo who is Poor, with less than 30 weeks.

Obviously I could go in to more detail, but this is the basic I use for advice.

I'm now using http://www.formulamanager.com/sokker/asistente

But prior to that I basically just did very rough maths in my head allowing for a talent of 4 what would they look like by the time they come out. 19/20yo solids aren't exciting. I generally want excellent+, but will go for VG 17yo's and 16yo solids. Might keep some guys around that are lower if they are low weeks (always good to confirm just how crap they usually are and remind you why you have standards)

So yes I tend to trash all the unsat and below. I guess I might keep a 16yo unsat with 30 weeks long enough to see if they are talented, but they need to have time and age on their side to bother.

I've had to keep guys I used to dismiss because I was struggling to have 24 prospects I wanted to keep. I don't want more than 24 guys (so I can get the maximum number of new prospects each week), but you might as well keep your best 24.

Ah I took a bit to realise what you meant by not wanting more than 24 guys.

For anyone reading, his youth school is set to 30 players, but he likes to keep the actual number in the youth school to 24, so that he has the chance of getting 6 youths join (ie 24+6=30) every Saturday. Once they have joined (1 to 6 youths) he tries to fire the worst ones to get back to 24, thus opening up 6 spaces for the next week in case 6 decide to join.

I do similar but more with keeping 4 spots open. I miss out on the times when more youths would have joined, but feel it is offset by having two extra youths being trained.

You did also hit a good point about "Relaxing" your requirements if you are struggling to keep numbers up, or making the requirements "harsher" if you are continually having too many youths in the school
