Asunto: [U21] Defenders

Even accounting for secondaries and age, using the transfers db tool the max price in the past 5 seasons for a player in an almost identical position the highest was 5m aud. 7.2m aud is almost 50% more than the previous highest sale and that’s even in a time of reduction of income.

If I expanded scope on secondaries to go beyond what Schwarzer is then I bring in higher sales as they become midfielders with defense skills.

It’s actually a really good sale for Oscar here especially given it wasn’t listed at European time zones. The player who bought him probably would have gone another few million as well which is why I pushed it from 6m to 7m before pulling out to help the sale price. Thought about going to 8m but didn’t want to get stuck with that by pushing too far.

There are a number of 20yrs though who have sold for 7-8m when I open the age gap open a bit. So I stand by 7.2m being a good sale all things considered but maybe it’s not that much of an outlier as when I was comparing against just 21-22yos.

Have to go back 6 seasons for an equivalent sale to Schwarzer as a 21yo.

After taxes, it's a 6.4M profit for 4 seasons of training. Almost exactly a year.

Yeah seems the quickest way to money is train 1-3 seasons and sell even if they’re not complete players yet. Enjoy your money :)

As a but of a comparison, Van Blerk also sold recently for 8.3M

He was 23 and double unearthly but with worse secondaries I think (I had planned to keep an eye out and then promptly forgot).

I'm not sure Schwarzer will get 7 pops of pace/def in 26 weeks (although based on price, he was deemed slightly less valuable so maybe 5-6 pops instead would be on par).

I'd say great sale for sure.

He's definitely talented. He started in my team as an early season 17yo, with weak pace and average defender.

Gives hope for my current 17yo trainee at average pace and good defender.

End of the day, despite wanting to pick him up I couldn’t see the value in pushing towards the 8M mark. Hope he continues to be trained and not just left as a squad filler.

I was a bit like others here….when I popped in to bid, the price was already top end for what was looking to pay…so I was only a spectator in the end.
