Dev Diary 65: Training reform - we're taking off!
struś 2022-07-14
With great joy and satisfaction,
I am pleased to announce that
the programming work and tests
for the implementation of the new training rules
have been completed !!!!
Next to last season's competition reform, this is certainly the biggest change and the biggest challenge our team has had to face. It is safe to say that with these changes in place, we will finally welcome the new Sokker that the development team has been talking about since the beginning of the work.
This does not mean that we will stop there, but the most important milestones have been reached!
CALENDAR OF TRAINING RULE CHANGES:
- [14.07.2022] this was the second-to-last training under the old rules.
- [15.07.2022 - 21.07.2022] the whole week from tomorrow until next Thursday is the last week in which the old training rules apply, remember to position your players accordingly.
- [21.07.2022] on this day will be the last training under the old rules
- [22.07.2022] on this date the new rules will take effect, this will also be the first match day to count towards the new training algorithm.
- [22.07.2022] the old training settings page will be replaced by a new one with the interface shown below.
- [28.07.2022] on this day your players will train under the new rules for the first time.
WHAT IT WILL LOOK LIKE:
At this link you can get a little familiar with the look and mechanics of the settings. The link is already working, you will see your players there, but until 22.07.2022 the settings made there will not have any influence on the game. This is just an exercise.
https://sokker.org/pl/app/training/training-setup/
RULES OF THE NEW TRAINING:
We wrote in detail about the rules in Dev Diary #63 - it was a while ago, you might want to remind yourself before the changes take effect.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have done our best to render the best possible version for you. Remember, however, that training is always the essence of our game and, as well as being attractive, it is also very complicated and difficult for developers.
We have to reckon with the fact that with such a major change interfering so deeply into the structures of the game, bugs may appear and there is no other way than to correct them during the current season.
Let's hope there are as few of them as possible!

Well that’s good timing. Everything is been planning for a season or two now really came up trumps. I get to keep Renaud now and can now switch away from pace training right when I was wanting to shift as well.
Had a few weeks to accumulate more training data on players talents so can make some assessment about what 10 players I intend to give specific training too.
I am concerned about it’s full implications as whilst it sounds great to be able to avoid the transfer market I haven’t really considered wider impacts. Have they got the balance right/ does the game now become too easy? What on earth is going to happen to transfer prices for juniors and for non trainables? Probably need to read all the links and work out does this mean I need to find a head coach with unearthly in every skill I want to train and how much is that going to cost me to maintain.

So it basically means that the new training regimen provides more flexibility but at the cost of the max number of players that can be trained in a week. For example, with pace training with the current rules, I could train 22 players in a single week since pace training allowed me to train all 11 players in a single game. But now, there's a cap on the number of players that I can train, which is 10. Will this mean that now I have to buy only 10 trainable players and the rest of 11-15 players whatever the number, I can buy literally any players. Since training anyway won't matter to them, won't most users prefer to buy older players who are 30+ but with good skills to get them results? Which will mean that in the TL, players who are higher aged will be more costly?
Just want to understand how you all are going to go about strategizing in the coming weeks.

Yeah, and considering the previous season and these several weeks of the current one, there has been a possibility to train even more players. 3 games a week and free slots on each of them gave the opportunity to train 33 players in pace, 9 in striking, 3 in gk and 15 in other skills, besides stamina. Hope most of you snatched at least a bit of that privilege.

My thoughts are good juniors are going to be hard to find. People will train their own now. Those that do hit the transfer list will be rarer and therefore sell for more. As for older players I’m expecting less demand in general. Pace is always an exception but strikers were a max of 6 and gk a max of 2 meaning you had to buy the rest of the team. Now training 10 you can basically almost train up an entire first xi and thus don’t need the transfer market as much. Hence why I think prices will generally tend to go down due to lower demand. Countering that though is inflation with income and the three games a week situation so it could go either way.
The real trick will be how many coaches end up on the transfer list for people hunting unearthly in so many skills

Yeah, but training those 10 players might take time depending on at which stage you start training those players, considering you will also be training your juniors. So if most of the space is taken by juniors in advanced training, then you need to look for players who are already high skilled and you don't need to train as much, which are older players.
Predicting these things will be tricky but let's see what happens. I'm sure people will find different ways to upgrade their team. Now, for some reason, I'm preferring the earlier system and I'm not saying it's a better system but I have got so used to it. There are plenty of faults in the earlier system as well, where you need to be more active on transfers without which your team has no way to improve. Also, limited number of players that you can train for a particular skill, etc.

I think overall, this training system/new youth talent system will be the only improvement from all the changes the devs have made, but I certainly see where you are coming from.
It will be interesting to see what this system is like long term.
IMO, this game has only survived for 3 reasons:
- The training system - which has now been changed
- The NT system - which is drastically going downhill due to the inaction of the devs to give things an even playing field for opportunity
- The stubbornness of it's users - still just as stubborn but again, DEV inaction and unwillingness to listen means we will use the stubbornness elsewhere.
Thankfully I really like the local sk-community and this is what keeps me here. Bunch of good people.

I think there’s a few others there I’d consider keeps me. It’s still the best soccer game with personal club management using fictional names/clubs and where you compete against other users at the same pace.
I still think it’s tactical editor and match viewer are something most other games in this genre lack. I believe tactics were better back in the day to now though I don’t know another game that you can play against other humans that has a free match viewer and ability to fully customise tactics.
That’s in addition to what you’ve mentioned as I agree with most of your list as well.

Yeah agree that the tactical editor and match viewer set this game apart. The rest of the features are pretty BAU across most management games.

So I would expect that any reasonable trainer who isn’t in their first few weeks of the game should already have an established 1st XI and should have ideally trainees in progress prior to this change (it’s been known for a while).
So it shouldn’t be any worse to the current training system that only allows you to train one line. However it can get a whole lot better if you’ve been planning for this already. Instead of having a max of 5 of your first xi being developed you can have 10 of your first xi being developed (which has been made easier to achieve with the current system and the additional game per week). If you’ve been training tech and pace then you could already have reasonable development of youth prior to the new training system coming in. You can then safely train primaries to all 10 to quickly build your team up. Ok it may take a few more seasons to get there completely but it does mean you’re not having to resort to the transfer market for a minimum of 6 players and instead are looking for a minimum of 1.
Any other reason for buying players to improve positions you don’t have will be no worse then before (you still had to then anyway) and now there is the added benefit that depending on your team strength and what you’ve been training recently you may only need to buy 1 to fill your team as a minimum. In general you’ll likely require fewer transfer players that aren’t juniors. That’s not saying you won’t be buying but depending on your strategy it should be fewer then before (definitely won’t be more).
Thus demand for older players should fall somewhat (unless you don’t get access to the juniors you want). Just depends how ready you are for that change as to how quickly this happens. I’m in a good spot as timing has worked out really well. I will need top ups but I’m also playing a different game atm where it’s more a longer term thing. In 3-4 seasons I expect I’m aiming to have average ratings in the 60s and competing for the top 4 despite being at a financial disadvantage atm. That would have likely taken me double that without this new training system and cost me a lot more in $. Now by the time I get there my average age of squad should be mid 20s giving me time to develop the next batch. Hopefully it just becomes a rolling production line. Sell the old bring in a new youth player and try and have that staggered such that I’ve always got a replacement ready to go once I sell on an older player.
I’ll then have more money to spend on single top up players or better quality juniors rather than spending heaps for a player who only lasts season or two.

What you say makes sense and I'm guessing you aren't a pace trainer to remain unfazed by this. Since I was a pace trainer where I was training 22 players, this update means that I need to completely change my plans, my training structure and hence my team.
But in the long term, I get where you are coming from where you won't need to buy as many older players because of the players that we have already trained and since you weren't anyway training 22 players, this has been a welcome change for you because of the additional flexibility.
Regardless, not all players will be in the same growth stage as the other players. For example, some players that you are training will be playing 11 material, some will be midway, some at the very initial stages. And to make the playing 11 strong, since you can't play all the players that you are training due to variable developments, you still need to hit the market and buy less expensive older players to improve the playing 11 quality.

I also really like the transfer system in this game with bidding and everything. If they merge leagues in the smaller countries, then the league system can also be added as a reason. They will do it eventually if the number of users don't increase, the question is when.

What’s going to be interesting is whether it’s better to train say 10 strikers now instead of 6 or if it’s better to train 10 that make your first xi. What’s the cost/benefit of either. The former means you rely on buying players (possibly costly) but you save coach wages and you can sell off players for cash without impacting your 1st Xi too much. The other option leads to getting a quick 1st Xi and not having to spend on the transfer market as much but at the cost of coach wages and the ability to sell off excess players for money. However that might get you more wins and therefore more revenue from gate receipts etc.
Guess there’s going to be more flexibility. Pace only though probably dies as a strategy.

Could be quite the opposite. Pace training may become more profitable because there will be less players with price due to half the number of trainees
Always possible. I guess I was assuming player prices in general would go down on the e transfer list and since you could no longer train 22-33 in pace you’d have less to sell. However, if prices for pace go up then yeah you’d be right. Not sure we will see that though but it is possible given pace is going to be harder to get to divine now then any o th we skill
