What’s working against my strategy is they are now clamping down on people having money by making the expectations punishing for those of us not wanting to spend cash.
Do you think it'll be a big hit though? End of season payments are not huge compared to gate takings.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but your strategy is based on long term development of quality players and resisting the urge to go for a title too soon, which not only helped build a nice bank balance but also a squad of trainees that only need to be supplemented by a handful of players (and not 15M strikers). Very effective strategy.

So there's 2 parts. End of season payments are based on finishing position and that's been set and visible. The expectations from what I believe will impact the maximum fan mood you can achieve, how easily you can increase/decrease fan mood, attendances the next season and sponsorship money. I've heard something like if you miss your expectations you my be locked out of reaching fan moods above X for example and depending on what X is, that could be a big nuisance.
I feel it has to have a big effect because they're trying to make teams sitting in low leagues farming away cash and training players up stop doing that and trying to be competitive. They've used money in the account as the biggest factor by the looks of things. That works against my nest egg strategy.

Yeah, its morphed into that a bit. Initilly it was just get to the A League and avoid last so you get a qualifier and just secure the extra revenue. When the training change got announced it came at the perfect time for myself in regards to my own junior pulls that it became a bit of a no brainer to switch to training up a self grown team without big transfer dollars being spent. I then got away with it further as I was looking to switch to pace training anyway which at the time trained every position and they had 3 matches a week for 33 training slots. So I definitely drew the long straw when they announced and implemented that and when they gave the grace period as well before switching to the current system completely it just basically fell into my lap.
I haven't regretted that decision but it has meant I've trained less than ideal players at times and my current crop are getting to the end of the fun part of training as everything takes so long to increase.
I'm actually in the process of re-evaluating what I do going forward and when I switch over because there's a very dry spell for youths coming through my system at the moment and it also seems to be the case for others too. I may have to look at the international market at some point but that's often very expensive for what I need to get to the next tier.

I was thinking the effect would be similar in other countries, but it's probably not a big deal, 'cos the difference in income from div 2-3 or div 3-4 would be smaller when the lower div is not full of bots.
If the bots in div 2 had a fanbase comparable to the average of the active clubs, that would reduce the gap to the division above and reduce the need to buy and sell players for short term gains. Now we're really going into the hypothetical realm though.
The bots are the problem fullstop. It's why you're worse off in div2 now then you were in 8 league teams as there are more bots dragging the league prestige down and hence sponsorship money down. It's a hugely flawed system and one I've been vocal about because it's punishing all small nation countries. It's even impacting us in the A League though to a much lesser extent. With Hackney Marshes coming up, they've got a lot less fans than say yourself or Tribe or Portland at the moment (which will change with time) but it means we all take a hit. It prevents sides like Chelsea and Achmid from seriously improving their teams because they're missing out on potentially 100k a week because of it.
If we had merged leagues that would add a shield to the top division/s and this becomes less of an issue and sponsorship basically just increments each season whilst leagues improve the number of fans. The further you are away from volatility/bots the more stable your sponsorship will become.
That's the primary reason poland div 4/5 get so much, they've just had so many users that a lot of teams are very similar in fan size now so the sponsorship stretches all the way down that far before it compares to leagues like our own.

This hypothetical aside, which is just a bit of fun... the main point is that it widens the divide between established A-League clubs and clubs trying to break into the A-League.
You cannot sustain an A-League cost base on 40% of A-League income. So teams promoting are coming from a lower cost squad. They'll need to bolster in an effort to stay in the top league (or maintain any semblemce of fan mood). If they fail, they face a 3M loss if they don't sell off players, which is a 6M+ loss relative to the 9th placed A-League team they're trying to keep up with.
Of course the poor team in div 2 who can't promote, doesn't get the sugar hit at all. But that's a different discussion. They're not affected by this tax.
The increased fees will definitely affect my approach when I need to round out my squad for A-League again. Investing more than a couple of mill on each player I'm not planning to train would be a significant risk.
Agree that it widens the gap, and agree that it's difficult when you're operating at a much lower base but it is also easier to get into A League now as well (not stay there though). That's why my strategy wouldn't be to get ageing players to bolster your side unless it was significant enough to get you into that fight for 7-9th realistically. Should you fall just short on that I'd be looking to give up the possible transfer money in order to try one final crack the next time around. Should you fall a long way short then yeah I'd follow your strategy of reselling but I'd be looking at where it wasn't suffiicient and addressing that the next season. A $1m purchase for example if you resold 2 seasons and got say $200k instead, 800k could be made up for if you could survive a single season of the A League. Just 2 seasons consecutive in the A League should get you to a stage where you can do better than everyone else trying to get up.
I guess I see purchasing a squad player as a cost I don't expect to receive future money from, so if I spend $1m and get nothing back in resale, if I've had them 3-4 seasons it's effectively a 250k per season cost that potentially helps me with a few more purchases/training players survive and reap benefits at which point the cost of the player isn't such a big deal anymore. Landulfo, Fiorello and my other polish defender were examples of that since I needed to cover gaps and thankfully I got away with a very mediocre defense line (and still do). I've lost value there but they were enough to bolster my side to survive the A League enough times that the rest of the pieces have since fallen into place. That's just my perspective but I'm not living it as I got very fortunate with the strategy I went with. It's also why I guess I don't see the tax as a big of a deal because my thinking of player management is clearly different to others.
Instead I'd probably look at mass investment into training players and flipping them for cash. Either train 10 different positions (but that's hard to manage with coaching wages, though it's ideal if it can be done) or train 10 of a single position. Strikers and Defs are probably easiest, but you could combine Mids and Defs if you wanted to form the core of your starting XI and then just need to pick a GK and 1 striker and you'd be competitive off your own training. That may mean you yo-yo a season or two but a few seasons you'd have the core of your squad to go up with you. If you trained like 6-7 defs and a few mids (that's a solid 5-3 baseline where you could play a 5-3-2 or 5-4-1).
It's hard because I'm at a stage now where I can't demonstrate this as I've got an established hold where I am and enough resources to get me back there quickly enough.
The only other strat is for the day-trade like game but in Australia good luck achieving that. That is a way of making money though and even with the 25% tax should be viable if you're careful.

In any case, appears as if the tax has been reverted back to 10% now. Seems it was unintended.
Don't think I've ever had this before.

Think that’s the reimbursement for the unintended tax change on transfers.
There was an update last week. Couple of things to note from my interpretation.
1. The cost of plus will likely go up when they bring in a new monthly payment system.
2. Players may soon be able to visit a specialist to treat injuries faster for a fee.

There’s a few things floating around atm. Only one I know for sure is coming though is the plus increase and change to subscription method and with that they’re going to push the ability to see nt player skills to behind the plus subscription to sweeter the hit.
Don’t like it but if it means I have to return to the old style of sending frequent skmails then that’s what I’ll have to do. Little unfair mind you but thankfully we have a great community here anyway we will get through it.
Other stuff being talked about in dev threads seems quite a way off being implemented though and some of the ideas I hope never see the light of day they’re that terrible.

The international league/cup for everyone would be a nice change for small communities I guess
Not a problem-solvers but a good step forward...
I like how open they are about the changes and propositions but it's also a bad sign... shows that they don't have a clear, coherent version of how the game will look after the main changes are done.

Tax increase incoming again for transfers. A better system then the last time they upped transfer tax. Think graph in press room isn’t accurate atm either so wait around and see what we get.
Agree, it looks like a better system now.
Still believe they should link wage to sale price though

I mean that would solve all their issues without hurting innocent teams. Teams having money might choose not to spend it and any future teams won’t make as much money because people will pay less because it will hurt their back pocket. Arguments been that just makes elite teams better and I’m like not really any different to now other than now there’s a consequence to paying 10m for a 17yo.

When's the new tax coming in? I have some selling to do.

Not been announced as yet so I’d suggest you have weeks yet.
Also the new tax is a lot better than before. It levels off to normal taxes pretty quickly but definitely the first 4 weeks after buying it’s a hefty tax.

So most should be aware if you check your press room or read the international forums but they have introduced coach retirement where the age of 60 has a small chance of retiring the end of the season and that increases the older they get and the more your results are below expectations.
I think I’m likely losing 2 maybe 3 coaches off the bat when this kicks in but nothing I can’t handle.
