So thought I’d finally post here. I’m cometer and am the current Australian NT manager. I’m one of the oldest Australian users (in terms of starting date) and started sometime in late 2004/early 2005. I don’t believe any current Australian user started before me but there’s a few still playing that started around my time. I accidentally lost my team in 2014 as a result of Internet issues mainly and I’ve only recently returned in 2020. I was one of the most successful managers in Australia up until I lost my team and have taken the NT to the World Cup in the past when we had a competitive NT.

I was previously a moderator (so some of you on English language countries may have seen me around cleaning up the forums every once in a while. As a mod I had closer access to the devs and I was a strong advocate for equality around sponsorship/gate receipts for small nations even back as far as the 2000’s. It’s not something that’s new. Ended up quitting moderating when none of the devs gave a stuff.

Almost 10 years later it’s still an issue and sadly recent developments haven’t helped (12 team leagues, increased player wages and the reduction in gate revenue down the road). In any case I’ll continue to fight the fight for change as I understand how badly it hurts when you feel a second tier player.

I’m always happy to help out if people have questions or just want to talk and I’m more than happy to extend that to any of you here too.

Just wanted to mention to keep faith this merged league or something similar will happen in the future some time.

I believe the devs are starting to see there is not much incentive for us small users to stay in the game and that if they want to expand and advertise, it will be important that there are still experienced users around.

Just remember to keep telling your case and how hard it is to keep a positive income, especially for those who have bots in their top league. And also remember to continue to be polite.

In other news, how is everyone feeling about the new season? What are your goals? Will you win the league?

In Australia it is always difficult to beat our number 1 team, Chelsea FC. With luck, can win the title, otherwise a top 4 position should be where I finish.

Struggling with our time zone to access the transfer market so my defenders are very old and dropping skills. Looking like I will have to pay out some $$$ to get a new defensive line, otherwise ATT, MID and GK are looking good

Ha I'm definitely not saying I'm without a chance, but I'm not going to downplay a bit of luck in those wins :)

Everyone knows you are the big fish in Australia, and it's up to the rest of us to cut you down haha

My wages have upped 50% , so I need to consider selling some players as its looking like I will make a loss most weeks

I upped my stadium capacity to 64000 , going with the new changes I think I should have been better off staying at 50000 I had for a long time previously.

As for the league , I will survive easily but I won't be able to challenge for anything for a while

What is everyone's opinion on squad size ? I currently have around 24 if I remember correctly, but I'm thinking it may be an idea to go down to about 18 as wages are too high

I think 18 is a good number. Any less and you start to run into problems covering injuries and suspensions.

I prefer 20-21 myself. You need 10 trainees and then you need your starting xi and some extras. I feel like you wouldn’t have 10 trainees that make your starting side unless you’re not planning to go for the title.

I have been playing with an actual squad size of 16 for too long. Really it isn't enough, but I have made it work in a bid to save some finances.
Of course, injuries have hurt a lot when they do hit, ideally I'd like to get 2 more, so an 18 squad size.

Agree with the consensus. I think 19-20 is the sweet spot depending on where you are in your journey. If your squad is still building and half of your trainees are in your starting eleven you could probably survive with 16ish, but if you're competitive you're getting closer to the 20 player mark. Suspect I'll start this season with 19.

I keep 17 players generally and I agree with others that 17-21 should be a good number depending on where you are in the league.

What's been happening In Sokkerland and RL ?

I ended up doing some team maintenance by buying in a bunch of defenders that sold at a time I could bid (and I could only access them due to work starting at 6am my time, so whilst I was getting ready).

So selling off a couple of oldies now, and will look at selling off a couple more defenders shortly as they will be surplus.

I'd like to say they have improved my team skill, but probably have made it a little weaker, just a fair bit younger

So I got buddy plus, for like 5 days, so not sure if this will work, but feel free to try and join this friendly league and I will attempt to start it before plus runs out
