Asunto: Seasonal Competition.

Well I'm still juggling things, everything will be sorted and the top 14 will have players play. That was just a preliminary squad.

Ok tactic is set now. Players chosen are concrete. Dropped the 3rd striker to the bench to play a 4th mid as I had been thinking about, all 3 subs will be used. Tried to have as many of the first 11 picks play as possible. Hope everyone enjoys the game, I'm not sure whether or not we'll win but we'll give it a crack :).

Bloddy Dreger and his form. Looks like excellent isn't high enough. Also only solid pace makes him slow as a turtle ;)

Good game cometer, though the strikers were a little bit too low, so when there was a through pass the def had an easier work to do.

Thanks for the competition.

Was a surprisingly even match, ended 0 - 0 but we didn't obtain any injuries so some managers can breathe easier now that their player is available for the qualification match tomorrow :). Hope everyone enjoyed the match against their U21 side and good luck for those with qualification matches tomorrow.

yeah they were a little too low I'll admit but I didn't plan on Island playing defenders so deep either given their past matches. Considering who we had playing I thought we went alright. Richter should have buried one of those chances though, although Dreger almost turned to hero status with the long range attempt in the 87th minute :p.

Another interesting fact was that was my first draw in charge of the national side.

Yup, was a powerful shot. Before that he was playing something like Emil Heskey - get the ball, pass the ball to the other striker :))
2007-06-23 09:43:15
from all those attacking throw ins I was surprised we couldn't find a target once :(.
2007-06-23 09:44:35
Actually nothing 'that' surprising. Low passing and playmaking of mids + a lot of defs in the penalty box, so the strikers were marked all the time.
2007-06-23 09:46:14
yeah except the playmaking wasn't actually that bad :p Was more the passing.
2007-06-24 05:15:34
Henty had a lot of the ball and I was happy with the way he played, but it was a shame he was unable to whip in a decent cross with his VG passing. Would have thought one would hit the mark.
With the latest ME it's so important to have someone who can launch a shot from outside the box when those wayward crosses come in.

Reviving this thread, to start up this season's competition. The competition is similar to last season in that the top 11 finishes get a player of their choosing come the end. I've decided that the competition will last for 6-7 weeks.

What's different though is the style of the competition. Unlike last season where you tipped a scoreline, this season is intended to be a little more "fun". Basically each week I'll set up a few questions which are multiple choice, and you pick which answer you feel is correct. At the end of the round, I'll go through and work out the correct results and you'll be awarded 2 points for each correct result and a bonus 5 points for getting all correct.

We'll start off this week against Sverige. Questions coming very shortly :).

Hope there's some interest in this, like there was last season.

You have up until kickoff to post your answers.

Significant information
Sverige have more users then we have and have recently overtaken us on the national team rankings. Sverige finished 3rd in the Mini World Cup, only losing to Uruguay in a closely fought match. Only time we played them was during our first ever world cup match back when Sriram was managing and we managed a 0 - 0 draw.

In Sverige's last 5 games they've scored 25 goals, whilst only conceding 10. (Although a few of those came from their penalty shootout loss to Uruguay) Sverige come into this with 4 wins and 1 loss from their past 5 games, with the following record:

(W) Srbija
(L) Uruguay
(W) Ireland
(W) Island
(W) Indonesia

For Australia, we've recently been knocked out of the world cup without registering a single point or goal for that matter. From our past 5 matches we've only scored 2 goals whilst conceding 14. Had difficulty scoring, although we broke the drought with 2 goals against Venezuela in an U21 match if that's any sign of things to come. Our record has been woeful to say the least.

(W) Venezuela
(L) Ireland
(L) Italia
(L) Slovensko
(L) Norge

The amount of shots squandered or chances not taken has been painfully high, but last week a few goals were taken. What the result of this week shall be, only time will tell.
