Asunto: Youth players

I fully acknowledge that I am speaking from ignorance. I find it hard to remember pre-Hirons/Croxall days, and even their early days when I was training Croxall up from tragic.

You a number of valid points, and I had also forgotten that tech limits a players speed with the ball.

Still if you use the width of the pitch and your striker is scoring most of his goals with his head, then tech is mostly irrelevant at the critical moments. If you set your tactic right you should be able to get your speedy, sniper to both shoot from range and also pounce on rebounds and be in for crosses as well. Like I said, I'm suprised I don't see/hear of people doing it more (maybe they do and it just doesn't work?)

True but so is pace :p. You just need to sit the strikers in the goalbox with high striking to receive crosses from midfielders ;).

One of the great things about the game is that there is no single requirement for players. A striker can have a number of skills, you just need to modify the tactic to suit the situation.

Arguably you need the right amount of pace... if you're too much faster than the winger, you'll run to offside -> stop -> run again. Too slow and the cross will come in before the striker is in a decent scoring position.

wow, could only be worse if he was 20, bad luck mate
2009-04-30 14:01:02
decent midfielder. Pity about the age, but with a few seasons in pace/tech/pm he might come out ok. Doubt he'll make the U21 or Senior side though, starting at 20 is too big a disadvantage.

Probably should be trained up as a defender, to train 2 skills rather than 4. That's really the only way I could see him making the NT.
