Newbie question, but how on earth do you calculate talent when youth player levels are like a rollercoaster?
I have my first potentially ok youth pull next week (17yr old Excellent). He's been with me for 16 weeks and has gone from an initial level 3 to 10, but that belies that fact that after 1 week he was up to level 8 , up to 9 after 2 weeks then fell down to 6 and came up to 9 again over the next 4 weeks and since then has fluctuated between 8 and 10 .
I have an outstanding youth coach so don't think that is the issue but I don't see how I can assess his talent as I don't know when (if at all) his skill level became accurate.
Are you guys just ignoring the changes and assuming that the initial assessment was accurate so in my guys case it would be 7 pops over 16 weeks?

You can use sokker assistente or whatever the tool is called to keep track of training and youth I believe. I haven’t used it myself but others have. It gives you an estimate for youths I think based on linear regression.
From what I understand in the youth school levels are equally spaced so the time it takes to increase a level is the same regardless of where on the scale you are. We know players progress at the same constant rate as well so everything else is down to the “intentional errors” to simulate a coach never being fully sure of someone’s exact talent. A coach level (general appraisal) also adds to the better estimate too. Also note that these values we get aren’t the true value of talent but are approximations to give us a relative value of what’s good and what’s not and is really only calculated at youth school level. Beyond that it’s different as each level takes longer to reach then the level before it so usually you just post how many weeks it took trainign wise to level x in skill y with coach z.
I personally collate my own data and then use excel to give me the linear regression formula and then plug in 1/whatever the slope coefficient is to determine wks/pop. I mean my actual way is slightly more elegant in that I use the linest function to go straight there without having to graph anything and then do additional stuff. However, if you’re not sure what you’re doing sokker assistente is likely better for you if you want approximate talents (noting that these are approximate estimates and the longer they are in the youth school the more accurate they become). We know from when it wasn’t jumbled that best talent is around 3.3wks/pop but yeah these days because there’s a lot of random smudging going on you can be outside this mark.
In any case you can’t afford to miss data points otherwise it’s inaccurate.

In any case simply pops divided by weeks is probably the least reliable method for talent estimation but it’s the easiest and quickest method if you don’t use external tools. I wouldn’t read much into those that do it that way other than a general ball park if they could be ok or they’re definitely not ok.

Also if you use sokker assistente and then provide images when you try and sell a youth player, if they’re talented they will often sell for more because people can see a graph from a trusted source as opposed to being completely at the mercy of a manager saying someone is talented when they’re not. For examples of this check the transfers juniors thread and every post I swear says best or amazing talent without any evidence of it. I basically pay little attention to the marketing ploys people use and only focus on the skill set of a player and if there is any evidence to suggest a player is talented.

Cometer providing a very good, detailed and if you haven't come across it before, slightly confusing answer again :) but we wouldnt have it any other way.
For simplicity
Go to https://raqueto.com/sokker/asistente and sign up.
Go to this link for troubleshooting https://sokker.org/forum_topic/ID_forum/1259/ID_topic/3432409/pg/1. The main issue everyone stuggles with is CORS as most, including myself, had not heard of it, but this link shows how to download and use it for the brower
Then each week log in and update. It will keep track of your main team and their training. It will tell you who had a skill pop. It will give approximate talents of your squad members over time. And most importantly, it will automatically calculate a linear regression to tell you the most accurate estimate of your youth players talents.
Now because it is all an estimate, the more weeks someone is in your school the more accurate this talent estimate will become.
From what I understand.
Higher general level of your youth coach will train your youths slightly faster and therefore their talent will come out better (the actual players talent coding wont change, you can just take more advantage of their talent and therefore come out with higher skills).
If you play the junior in junior games, their skill level each week will have an improved accuracy - thus making your talent estimate more accurate

I did start by saying sokker assistente was the short/easy solution :). I just wanted to explain that there are several ways of going about it, some methods more reliable than others. Was also in a bit of a hurry so yeah probably didn’t come across as clearly as it should. However, you’ve done a good job of linking through to the sokker assistente.
Majortinkle has plus, so he can use simpler tools for determining youth's talent, for example this tool by Geston: https://geston.smallhost.pl/sokker/juniors.html
Here is a video on how to use it:
In about 15 seconds it can generate a screenshot like that:

I haven't seen that. Looks like a very useful tool!
Personally, I use Sokker Assistante app on Android. Easy to track training.
Playing in youth team supposedly gives a better estimate of talent. It's just an approximation, to give a rough clue of a player's talent. Enough to weed out some duds and get a glimpse of diamonds in the rough.

Either way, I’m guessing this youth in question is talented to some extent.
That’s the simple answer - General Lee speaking, Major Tinkle. ;D
