With such a good amount of skills though, and not losing all the points to stamina, I'd be thinking about training him as a MID as well

In general between 17yo and 19yo, should be on average 6-8pops

A fresh pull you can assume all skills are half way to the next level, so for a defender I would be adding 1 pop (7-9pops) as there are only 2 MAIN skills (DEF and PACE), ATT add 1.5pops as they use 3 main skills (PACE, TECH, STRIKER), and a Midfielder add 2 pops as they have 4 main skills (PACE, TECH, PLAY, PASS).

That simplifies it quite a lot, but it gives a bit of an idea.

The lower the level, the faster the skill will pop, and the younger the player the fast they will pop. 16yos because they are often low skill and young, will have a lot of 2 week pops early on
