Doesn't help when players in the recent off season were selling for 50% more than previous off seasons....which means come the early weeks this season, prices are stupidly high.
I sit there scratching my head at how teams in 5th & 6th tiers with stadia at 10-15k & overall transfer losses of a decent amount can afford to outlay large amounts.
I guess we (here in Oz) are punished for being a small nation....our sponsorship & gates must suffer hideously for it....??? Can't see where else the inequality would lie. :(

At least last night I was outbid by the top team in Iceland. Bid 2mil over value but still got pipped by a single bid while I was asleep.

The A League is right up there with the top leagues in terms of sponsorship levels. Wasn't always the case but thanks to a number of established teams now with large fan bases we're in a reasonable position. We would have been better still if Achmid and naph were still competing at the top but we're doing ok in the sponsorship front.
Reason we continually get beaten on the transfer market is down to a few things.
1) Transfer hot times are in the worst possible moments for those of us in Australia. That means we have less to choose from and so usually overpay in order to get the 1 or 2 available. We also receive less from our sales because we can't always list at the right moment to attract the bigger $'s. Higher expense less revenue equals less money.
2) Others sit in the lower leagues just selling off players (buying cheap and then selling off). They've been around for a while just accumulating funds.
3) Extra revenue from cup matches. Bigger userbase, more potential cup matches, more income. Here in Australia because we really only have our top league, we make pretty well nothing off gate receipts until there's around 8 left (16 occasionally if you hit a good draw) by which time half the teams face someone better again. If we had a stronger 2nd and 3rd division we would earn more (we may also earn less if we get knocked out, but overall as a country we'd earn more).
I've got transfer losses of $22m but I've still got around that in cash atm. It's not from not having cash, it's from not wanting to spend too much and having very limited choices.
The market really has swung in recent years. Players at 17-18 seem to get snapped up for large amounts of $'s only to in 6-7 seasons time sell for less than what they were originally bought for. People seem to believe they'll be such good players that they pay for what they expect the player to turn out like before they do.
At the other end those at 30+ are struggling to be sold for any sorts of money and really if you want a quick competitive team you should consider entering that market.
Defender training has become profitable recently too so long as you're willing to part with them early. Train 10 defenders (easy to do in the current 5 defender tactic market) train up pace and defender (2 skills) then flog off on the transfer market by 21-22 for $'s. They won't fetch as much individually as say a striker or midfielder but when you factor in the number you can train and that you only need to train 2 skills to make this money in a short time it adds up pretty fast.

Can't complain about sponsorship. 525k this week.
Costs a lot to compete at the top of A-League, and buy trainees, and refresh the squad.
You have to sacrifice one of the 3.
I wonder how the squad quality compares to the teams we're competing against?
There are just do many managers with cash to burn at this point of the season, and you only need to come up against one of them for the price to blow out.

:o Have you found an interest paying sokker bank? Why wouldn't you spend it?
How much of that would you have to spend to get back to #1 in Poland?
I also have around 30 000 000 $ in players...and a kick-ass stadium ;)
If I would buy players for all I have, I would be nr. 1 in Poland
the problem is before I would get to 1st league, the team would be old already ;) so I have to make small steps
but the plan is to go up every season...one fail at qualification attempt is possible. I'm training 2 strikers for the future first eleven, we will see how it goes.
My little star :-)
