Buy a 22yo mid for $9.5m and gets a 22 day injury in his first game. At least he should only lose 1 training as it's near the end of the season.

Only have 9 fit trainee's and still missed training 1 - DOH!!!

I just want to have a bit of a vent about this game. Only been playing back again for one week. Logged in on Thursday morning to find 2 bitter pills to swallow.

A) My midfielder I posted about on the other thread only went for 45000... Would have loved a lot more money to really get into to the game, particularly as I've already spent $200,000 on improving my squad.

B) My friendly matched that I prepared so hard for with an uber-awesome tactic in the end was a 5-0 walk-over to my opponent, because I accidentally deleted a duplicate tactic I created to try and fix the positioning of one of my players.

This resulted in no training for the week - which is an aspect of the game that I really wanted to explore, particularly as I've opted to spend $22,500 per week on coaches salaries.

I would have appreciated some sort of warning, but no - the only way to learn is by logging in, watching the ads for 5 bloody minutes, then seeing no match just "match finished 0-0." I thought it was a mistake, so watched the ads for another 5 minutes.... :(

So today I'm going to hopefully finally see my new tactic in action, and as it's a home game I should hopefully be able to see what my income will be from tickets and decide whether I need to sell some of these players.

If it works out that I'm going to be making a $20,000 loss every week, then I'm not going to bother playing the game, as I'll be in debt by the end of the season.

I based my tactic on Johan Cruyff's 3-4-3 diamond. It's 3-4-3 in attack, 4-2-3-1 in defense, and becomes 6-1-2-1 when the ball is in my penalty area...

Selling that player for $45k is a real shame. He would have been nice for your team. I suggest posting here before you do anything else in this game :)

Read my thread on there - a couple of questions It will teach you a lot that isn't in the rules :)

But you can now see the wisdom in buying 18 year olds, because they are very cheap and you can pick up ones that are as good as the players in your squad already for free. Training is very quick at that age. The 30 year olds you are buying have declining skills. You can win div iii with 18 year olds so you might as well make use of the training. You can train 22 players in pace. Everything else, you can only train 10 players max. 18 year olds with low pace are very cheap as you have now found out, so buy them and train pace!!! 22 players to sell in a few seasons will get you good money.

Its bound to be errors at the start with tactics and walk overs etc. Stick with it and stay patience. This game is all about patience.

Don't look at weekly profit/losses. Look at fortnightly. You play a home game every two weeks, so you want to aim to be in profit over the fortnight.

welp, there's the first BS result of the season

You shouldn't be making massive losses during weeks you have home games.

Transfer listing is all about timing and unfortunately, Australia's in arguably the worst time slot you can get for making profit playing the transfer market unless you are awake in the early hours of the morning. Not only that but certain days sell better than others and the Christmas/New Year period can be very iffy depending on whether people spend time on sokker given or if they go away for holidays/family etc.

having players end sales on Sunday night (early Monday morning Australian time) often results in the best sales, although for juniors having them end on a Wednesday night (Thursday morning Australian time) is not too bad an alternative. Otherwise you can practically forget making any kind of profit unless you drum up interest through transfer forums or set a minimum price.

Keep your costs low initially by not going full out on junior schools and coaches. Some argue not having junior schools works out better but I've personally never found that, but I certainly agree with not going overboard initially.

As you fan club size grows, your sponsorship, gate receipts will grow which will in turn allow you to upgrade and target bigger fish.

The game is all about patience, there's no quick progression unfortunately unless you are very good at playing the transfer market. Long term strategies outside of match tactics make the difference in terms of how quickly you progress.

There's no single method that dominates all others, so it's quite flexible in that sense, but the key to any long term strategy is patience, persistance and sticking to the plan without modifying it every few weeks.

That aspect of the game I still find enjoyable but it's more the current match engine and the lack of development/maintenance of the game that has driven me to the point where I am now where I'm not enjoying the game as much as I use to.

Wow! The other day I was in the crazy position of having 7 goalkeepers on my team. Sold a few of them and fired a few. (I think it was cometer or uberfurious who said gk's rarely get injured... ;) )

So in today's game I finally had my first SHOT (not goal) taken against my goalkeeper in a league game. Finally I'll get to see a goalie save from my own goalkeeper! But noooooo.... Instead of saving the shot, it appears my goalie copped the ball in the face and it went in... He walked off injured and he's out for 17 days....

I played the final 17 minutes without a goalkeeper, but my opponent didn't get another chance....

So now I have a young 17 year old Vietnamese goalkeeper who's my main goalkeeper. He has tragic pace, but hopefully he will train quickly....

ha ha. Don't panic. GK ain't too important in your games right now.
2014-01-12 12:09:45
Yeah, I did mention that they don't get injured that often (compared to outfield players especially). That's pretty unlucky that the first chance the keeper has of action, he gets injured. You needn't worry too much though, at div III you're pretty safe to not need a good gk anyway.
2014-01-12 22:34:34
I will put in my 2 cents about injuries though... I think there is a hidden injury "skill". Some players seem to get injured all the time and others never. I don't think it matters whether it is a GK or outfield player. My last GK spent a lot of time at the physio.
2014-01-15 00:02:30
Yep, citing Barnes on that front....I hope his new manager has better luck with injuries!
2014-01-15 12:23:43
Only in sokker.... Your player being given offside when collecting the ball in his own half... stoopid.

89' mark of my friendly and a 30 day injury to a good junior 'FARK'

all 3 teams that can go down from 1st league are very similar in level...
