As a defense trainer I am really curious as to what everyone else values in a stud defender. So rather than doing time-sapping research myself ;) I thought I'd get everyone else's opinions as to what their makeup of stud defender they want...

So this is what I want willing particpants to do...

Copy and Paste this:
----------
stamina=
pace=
technique=
passing=
keeper=
defender=
playmaker=
striker=
----------

Then what I want to see is where you would arrange the below values on the skills above (ie: whack each skill where you would like it to create the ultimate defender for you):

----------
Tragic x 1
Poor x 1
Adequate x 2
Good x 1
Very Good x 1
Excellent x 1
Unearthly x 1
----------

If you want to give reasoning that would be great as well. Debate makes the world go round!

nb: Yes, i know that outer and inner defenders usually have different skills. Choose the defender that YOU want... OR do it twice if you want!

is there a specific amount of points we can use?
2007-08-30 11:55:49
I'd imagine thats what the unearthly x1, good x 1 stuff is
2007-08-30 11:56:59
stamina=adequate
pace= excellent
technique= very good
passing= good
keeper= tragic
defender= unearthly
playmaker= adequate
striker= poor

Would be mine using those skills allowed.

Reason being, stamina is trainable, and I find defender pace and technique to be fairly crucial to a defender and passing and playmaking is rather useful but not as essential as the other 3.

That's pretty much my reasoning.

hard to concentrate with happy gilmore in the background, my apologies =p
2007-08-30 12:04:34
given those skills i would say very similar to cometer

stamina=adequate
pace= excellent
technique= very good
passing= adequate
keeper= tragic
defender= unearthly
playmaker= good
striker= poor

However I would like a couple of levels less on defender and a couple higher on pace

stamina=very good
pace=excellent
technique=good
passing=adequate
keeper=tragic
defender=unearthly
playmaker=adequate
striker=poor

didn't look at cometer's so dunno how close my one is to his =]

Edit: i'm assuming the defender is as-is with no extra training (eg stam)

I think you should get rid of striker and keeper as in sokker i doubt anyone uses their defenders in goals or up front, even for corners. My resoning is that adequate stamina is sufficient and does train quickly if not, pace is very important and lets defenders catch up to strikers out of position. excellent defense is quite enough as i have none exceeding it anyway plus defense trains faster than pace! choice between passing and playmaking i always prefer passing to be higher decent playmaking cannot create chances but passing can and good is enough for a player to pass in time.

stamina= Adequate
pace= Excellent
technique= Good
passing= Adequate
keeper= Tragic
defender= Unearthly
playmaker= Very Good
striker= Poor

Tragics for keeper and Poor for striker are a no-brainers.
First Adequate goes in stamina because its the easiest to train up.
I tossed up whether to have the Unearthly in pace or defending, but as the player gets older they will get residual pace training, whereas they would never be given defending training, so its easier to get the pace up later.
VG for playmaker was a coin toss between that and technique, both have their advantages, the other got the Good.
Passing gets the last adequate. (Its nice to have, but less important than the other IMO)

My current search when looking for a backline defender is:
Pace: exc+ (drop it to VG if not enough matches)
Def: outstanding+
Tech/Play/Pass: weak+ (looking to have most at good or better but willing to have skills as low as weak if others are higher)

I'll have this DEF please. [:D]

stamina=Adequate
pace=Excellent
technique=Good
passing=Very Good
keeper=Tragic
defender=Unearthly
playmaker=Adequate
striker=Poor

Excellent isn't enough pace really, but it's definitely not enough DEF. I value passing, 'cos I play a counter-attack game. Need good long balls through to the strikers.

would be mine, but only if he is still trainable (he needs at least 3-4 pops in defending to be good defender)

adequate stamina, tragic goalkeeper
unearthly pace, excellent defender
very good technique, good playmaker
adequate passing, poor striker

I've chosen unearthly pace, because pace trains very slowly, and unearthly would be quite an achievement..., you'd swap defending-pace, if hes not trainable anymore

stamina = good
pace= excellent
technique= very good
passing= adequate
keeper= tragic
defender= unearthly
playmaker= adequate
striker= poor

I'd like him in my team before the game on Sunday thanks. Awfully generous of you Agbell :D

You got a spare $5mil?
2007-08-30 15:12:50
ha that player would be lucky not to be sitting on the bench of my defence :P

stamina= adequate
pace= excellent
technique= very good
passing= good
keeper= tragic
defender= unearthly
playmaker= adequate
