hitting the post in front of the entirely empty goal inside the 5 meter field..

there were definitely some WTF moments..this actually happened twice, I think both Ledwaba and Lingard hit the post from few meteres while staring at the empty net:-)

All bad was forgotten though in 65th minute with that fantastic freekick from Serola who followed it 10 minutes later by another great goal..it's a shame we had no chance to qualify anymore, but in this match it was clear how much we missed Serola's genius in those key WCQ matches when he was injured..shame really this was once in a lifetime opportunity for SA and it will never repeat again..

Up for a new challenge!

After a season with surprising victories againt Israel, a tie against Spain and some solid, clear victories against other nations, but as well slightly disappointing results against Russia and Israel in the second game, I think our qualification campagn wasn't that bad. We probabely achieved the maximum possible with our "golden generation forwards".

Even if it is going to be tough with the available players, I'd still like to take the challenge to add another season as South African u21 coach.

The good work with and from LaBamba as NT-Coach is fun and quite successful, as well as the interaction with the few active local managers. Let's keep up the good work and try to adapt the tactics to the new players, for example focussing more on the MIDs this upcoming season.

The gaol will be to challenge nations with about the same level, simply trying to win a maximum of games.
