ouch, now USA must lose, else our qualification is gone 8-(
Sry for defeat. When you dont have at least 4 defs in a team you cant win . We dont have a chance with this team at worlds anyway. Better prepper a new tem 18-19 yearS old to try win a medall. 1 point in the game with usa we needed ..in 1 game we were dominated but we losed 3.... Random . Sry for dispoint you.

Hello
Tomorrow my first match as Austria u21 coach.
Today I choose my team - Austria has a lot of players it was hard to reject some of the players.
Our first rival is Russia, which has very good strikers so we have to be very careful in defensive
and this is my first squad

Russia seem a good first opponent, similar strong; i expect a close result, let‘s say 2-1.
Except you are a guru of course 8-)

Hehe :)
I watch Russian matches and they have strong strikers and weaker defensive so i agree with you it will be close result.
Austra : Russia 2:2 :)

Austra : Russia 2:2 :)
The first match is behind us, so i have some conclusion.
- Russia shooted first time in 73 minutes of match
- Austria has a lot of chance to shoot a goals - 1:0 it is the smallest dimension of failure
- i think my tactics was choosen corectly
- i put in first squad players which can cause why?
Conclusion
The first half was very interesting and nice to watch
The second shown lack of technic training, so there was more chaos :)

Good victory. Would be nice though if you could find a place for my boy Steinke in MID order since I train him technique in MID. Else I only have the injury risk but no training benefit :(

hmmm, I am disappointed and very angry - don't like to lose the match
Our rival put into squad the best players, but that doesn't explain to me.
I have some thoughts - now i am sure that so offensive tactics don't fix to our team.
we made to many mistakes in def and our strikers don't have technic so they could not avoid Ukraine defensor
I will return to standard tactic 4:4:2 but with some changes - we need to win the middle of the field
I am interested in your observation

from my experience Austria has rarely been successful with 3 strikers in the past. we haven't even had 3 competitive strikers at once so I would not recommend 3 strikers unless you play against banana islands or similar.
as far as I can judge I'd also promote a 442 or even a 541, you definitely need patience since our strikers don't seem to strike so soon

It would be foolish to claim that a triple-striker-tactic traditionally does not work in Austria. I took a quick look at the game: For a triple-striker-tactic to work, the three strikers must not run back too far. The distance between the strikers and the defenders was simply too big and the bigger this distance is, the more passing play is needed and not all U21 players (defenders and midfielders) have that. Even when defending, the strikers are usually not allowed to come into their own playing field, but stay in front.
Another point that needs to be addressed are the pass stations. There were no easy and clear pass routes between the MIDs and strikers (this is not because of your tactics, but because the opponent also did his job and blocked your pass routes). In the end I got the impression that every striker played for himself and therefore the attack was not collective. The MIDS were a bit too far in front and so they were pushed to make faster decisions and so the quality of the pass suffered. Maybe the MIDS should be set up a little more defensively (according to the motto: catch the ball and distribute it sensibly forward without pressure from the opponent).
