Can you check on transfer listed players the amount of games a player has played, correlated to his stats and get a basic idea of his talent?

There is a correlation between overall talent/skills and match score, but it's imprecise.

surest way to check talent is to train the player for 2 to 4 weeks

Good talent and low age should go like this:

poor to adequate (2 weeks per pop)
good to excellent (3 weeks per pop)
formidable to outstanding (4 weeks per pop)
Incredible to brillaint (5 weeks per pop)
Magical (6 weeks)
Unearthly (7weeks)
Divine (don't know yet)

Pace does train slower, I did not beleive it at first but it does. Lucky will take 4 weeks of pace training to go to formidable pace (instead of 3); although he might be realy close to poping and I can't tell.

if it's a new youth pull, and has high stats, you can know he has high talent...

That's about it. Otherwise ask and hope the seller isn't a liar.

Many don't bother lying, because why lie to one person in a market of 50K.
