Training

The first thing you should do when you have joined Sokker is to set your training to Stamina. You don’t have to set it to a position because Stamina trains all positions. This then means you don’t have to worry about training during the first few weeks while you get used to playing Sokker.

How do you set training? The video below shows you!

For more detail on Training, go HERE

Coaches

In order to do that training effectively you`ll need a decent coach. If you go to your training page you will see toward the bottom a number of coaches already on your staff under "No assignment". If you go into one of these coaches you will see something similar to this:

Dauberson Biru-Biru, age: 51
wage 3 375 £
club: Morse United, country: Brasil
very good coach

Training Effectiveness:
adequate of stamina, solid of keeper
outstanding of pace, very good of defender
formidable of technique, outstanding of playmaker
very good of passing, adequate of striker

There`s a number of important things here. Just below the club/country line is the bit that says "very goodcoach". This is commonly referred to as your coaches General Appraisal, or General Coaching Skill. This is THE important stat for your Youth coach and your Assistant Coaches. It`s a rough summary of the 8 individual skills below it. As you will see in the example above that coach is a great assistant or youth school coach, as he has “very good coach“ yet his wage is quite low, this is good when money is very, very tight.

For your Head Coach, it is the 8 skills that are important. The General Coaching skill on your Head Coach means nothing. For your head coach you want his skill in the stat you are training to be as high as possible. So as we`re training stamina you want him to be as high as possible in Stamina. The highest you can get on a coach is Unearthly (Divine may be possible, I'm not sure. If it is it's extremely rare).

So in conclusion:

Head Coach: High in individual stats.
Youth + Assistants: High in general appraisal.

You can have a maximum of 3 Assistant coaches, 1 Youth coach and 1 Head coach. You can also have some in the No Assignment section, but they do nothing and you still have to pay them.

For now I think a good level to be looking at for Youth Coach and Assistants is Good-Very Good general appraisal. If you look through your list of starting coaches you`ll probably find they`re all a bit crap. You might have a couple with average/adequate general skill. They might be worth moving to Assistants if you want, but you`ll probably want to upgrade them soon enough. If you have one there with Unearthly stamina, great! Set him as Head Coach, if not we need to recruit some coaches!

For more detail on coaches, go HERE

Recruitment of Coaches

There are 2 ways: the good way and the annoying money stealing way.

Option 1: Go to Transfers >> Trainers. Basically a coach transfer list. You have to bid/wait for deadlines just like the regular transfer system. There`s some definite bargains to be found there sometimes. It`s an easy system to understand.

The video below shows how to get a coach from the Transfer List (Option 1)

Option 2: Go to Training, and on the right under "Coach Recruitment" is a skills select option. There you can specify the minimum skills you want your coach to have, and you`ll get a randomly generated coach. It works quite well for lower coaches, but when you get very specific and very high it can be very expensive and often not give you what you want so requires doing over and over again.

The video below shows how to recruit a coach

Explaining the video above
So lets search for an Unearthly stamina coach. If you want to use the transfer option, fine. That`s pretty self explanatory. But for explanatory purposes lets use the Coach Recruitment option.

Set the stamina option as high as possible (it will only choose as high as magical, even if you select over), and set the other 7 options as low as possible (unsat). This will give you a good stam coach with low wages because his other skills are pretty crap.

You`ll probably get a suitable coach first time. Something like a poor/weak coach, unearthly of stamina, ~3k wages would be ok. If you can get cheaper and still get unearthly of stamina, awesome. Don`t go crazy with the searches though, as they cost each time you do one!

Everytime you do a search and bring a coach up he automatically goes into "No Assignment" on your coach page. If you don`t want to keep him you have to select "reject" on his info page to get rid of him. If you don`t you might find yourself accidentally paying for 15 coaches for a week or something silly.

Make sure you check the coaches wages before accepting the contract!

Early on, I would advise to get a Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach and a Youth School coach but try and keep the total wages between them under ~10k, because early on in your Sokker Career, money is very short!

The Stadium

The second thing you should do is alter your ticket prices. For each team, the stadium has eight sectors for building places for the fans to view the matches. The stands can be expanded or demolished, depending on your budget. In order to get the costs of building works of the desired stand, go to the Stadium and insert the places you require, and an estimation of the cost will come up. Be aware - the price of seats grows proportionally with the size of stand. It might be cheaper to build two smaller stands than a single bigger one.

There are four types of stands. Each type determines the ticket price and the number of spectators. Some of your fans may not come for matches unless you provide them with a satisfactory place to view a match - a proper stand. Supporters select the cheapest stand from the ones that suit them. However, a spectator is likely to buy a ticket for a stand with a higher cost, if their preferred seat is sold out. (so if benches are sold out, they will buy seats) Each stand can be covered by a roof to make attendance independent of the weather conditions. Adding a roof is often very costly though! During construction work, the stand is closed and only a small number of supporters are able to stand in the area. Construction times are estimated dates provided by your builders & may vary slightly from predicted.

Warning: Bankruptcy risk! Check your finances before constructing.

It is advised not to construct your stadium until at least your third season.

The stand types are;

Grass - No stand has been built here so up to 100 spectators are able to stand here.
Terraces - This is Standing places made from concrete. This allows you to have more than 100 standing but you cannot have a full stadium solely built with terraces.
Benches - This is a boost from terraces, but benches allow the supporters to sit.
Seats - The best of the best, these are the comfiest of all stands and more people prefer to sit here!

Setting the Prices

There are default prices for the stands, these are found HERE.

These prices however are very basic and cheap. You can alter the prices to however you want by going into the Stadium page, and clicking on “Change Price” of the stand you wish to change the ticket price of. There is a limit for ticket prices, ranging from a minimum of 0.15 £ to 150 £

The Video below shows you how to change the ticket prices

Players

Each player consists of 8 skills (just like a coach) and these 8 skills will reflect how well he is in the game. These 8 skills gives the player poor/good ability in his position. Below is a definition of what each skill does;

Stamina: Being able to play better for x amount of time (x depends on the Skill of Stamina)
Keeper: Goalkeeping!
Pace: Speed of the Player
Defending: Tackling
Technique: Ability to run past players, ability to control passes, launches etc.
Playmaking: Decision making, i.e., choosing which player to pass to
Passing: Passing accuracy, i.e., once a player is chosen actually kicking the ball in that direction
Striker: Shooting accuracy

For more detailed information on what each skill does and more, go HERE

Obviously, not every position needs all the skills (a keeper doesn’t need striker), so to help you when selecting players, below is what each position needs;

Position - Main Stats - (Recommended Stats) - ((useful))

Keeper - Keeper + Pace - (Passing).
Defender - Defending - (Pace, Passing, Playmaking) - ((tech))
Central Midfield - Passing, Playmaking - (pace, tech) - ((striker, defending))
Wingers - Pace, Tech, Passing, Playmaking - - ((striker, defending))
Strikers - Striker, tech, pace - (passing, playmaking) - ((defending))

For strikers, defending skill can be very handy at times. If they`re up against some dodgy defenders they can sometimes tackle the defenders before they manage to clear the ball, creating goal scoring opportunities.

Hopefully all of this will help you when selecting the line-up for your next match.

Junior School

Every Saturday you will get a maximum of 6 new youths join your junior school. So it`s best to have 6 empty spaces available every Saturday if you can afford it. You have to pay for spaces so it`s silly to have more than 6. To add seats to your junior school, go to Office > Juniors then you are able to ‘Change the number of Places’. Be careful not to have too many juniors, each space cost you 1 000 $ each week!

The Video below shows how to edit the junior spaces

The juniors will look like this;

Conrad Willis17 good 2 reject
Bradley German 19 solid 5 reject

This is split into 5 things;

(Name) (Current Age) (Skill Level) (Weeks) (Reject)

The all round skill level very basically tells you how good he`ll be, but it doesn`t guarantee that he`ll actually have any worthwhile stats that level. You can have an Excellent youth come out with Excellent defending, or maybe only Excellent stamina, or maybe a couple of Goods etc. It can be quite random sometimes.

Every week on Thursday your juniors will receive training along with the rest of the squad. At this point the week number will drop by 1. If they pop you will see the skill level increase. If you keep track of how often they pop you can work out their talent. The generally accepted fastest that a player has been seen to pop in the junior school is every ~3-3.5 weeks (so 3 weeks then 4 then 3 etc), even with the best junior coach (highest general appraisal). A player that pops like that will be very talented.

There doesn`t seem to be any correlation between the coaches' (any of them) general skill or individual skill, and the skills that your juniors come out with. Nor does there seem to be a way to change the quality of juniors that you get joining your junior squad. It`s all luck really.

When a junior joins your junior school they will have an age between 16 and 19 (which you can`t see). They will then age like any other player. So if you have a good 30 (weeks) join your junior squad, he might join the junior squad at 18, but by the time he joins the full squad he might be 20 if he crosses 2 age updates.

I think the maximum skill a junior has when joining the junior squad is "good", and I think the maximum weeks is possibly 34. So a good 34 who pops every ~3.5 weeks might reach unearthly or even divine by the time he is promoted. He`d be quite nice! Especially if he turns out to be 18!

You are able to have a Junior School team, for this you need at least 11 juniors in your Youth School. To apply to a league, go to your Office > Juniors and at the bottom you will see that you can apply to a league. These games don’t give your juniors extra trainings but can help you work out the position of the junior. However you can now only play U19’s in your junior games along with any 20yr olds who still have more than 0 weeks left. Any 20yr old that has 0 weeks wont be able to play in the junior matches.

For more detail on juniors, go HERE

Setting Up Friendly Matches

As soon as you have joined, you should try to arrange a friendly match which are played each Wednesday afternoon/evening. Friendlies can only be played though once you are knocked out of your national cup. To arrange a friendly, you will need publish an ad. To do this, go to your Office then click on “Friendlies”. On this page you can;

Publish your advert - this will be viewable to the world so people might invite you
View Published adverts - this means you can see what teams around the world needs a friendly match also
Invites for a friendly - This shows you the friendly invites you have sent out and you are able to cancel them
Invites to a friendly - Here you can accept or decline invites for a friendly from other users

To invite someone to a friendly, you need to go to the club page of the user you are trying to organise a friendly with, then go to their matches, then on the right column, if they already haven’t organised a friendly should be a button where you can propose to them a friendly. When you propose a friendly you are able to choose who is home/away and if it is played on cup rules (extra time and penalties).

Selecting your line-up

To select your squad for your next match, you will need to go to match orders. In Match orders you will see;

General - gives an overview of what you have done in ‘Squad’ and ‘Orders’
Squad - This is where you can select the 16 man team for the game, along with what they play as (DEF, MID, ATT). Also, you can select the tactic you have pre-made or use a default tactic.
Orders - Here you can choose the substitutions you would like to have during the game, your free-kick taker and penalty taker.

The maximum numbers of players you can have with the same position to receive training is: 5 for [DEF], 5 for [MID] and 3 for [ATT].

Using the Tactics Editor

The Tactics Editor is used to create your tactics and formations for future matches. You can find it by going to the match orders page of any future match and then clicking on the [Edit] link underneath the pitch image. Or alternatively, you can go to the training page, then at the top, click on “Tactics”.

The video below, is a summary of how to create a tactic which is explained in further detail beneath the video

1. All new tactics have to be based upon an already existing tactic.

Go to 'create tactic based on'. Click and choose a pre-existing tactic from the drop down box, i.e. 4-4-2. Then name it, i.e. My Tactic 1, in the bottom text box.

2. This tactic should now appear on the list on the left now. Click on it and the move the mouse over the pitch on the right.

3. The ball is in the centre now, in this position you can imagine that your keeper has the ball, so drag all your players to the positions that you think they should be and then click save. This is your teams basic shape and formation.

4. After point 3 when you move the mouse to the pitch now the players should be where you had them when you pressed save. Now click and hold on the ball in the centre and drag it ONE square left and leave it there. Your players will all move about. This is because they are still using the positioning from the old tactic which you based your new one upon. Put your players all back to where you originally had them and click save. You can do this quickly by moving the ball back to the centre, clicking on copy in the lower left, then moving the ball to the left again, and then clicking paste. Remember to click save once you've done this.

5. Move the mouse back to the pitch and drag the ball in the middle ONE square to the left again, to where you had it in the step above. The players shouldn`t move at all. Leave the ball there. But you want some of your players to move when the ball is in this part of the pitch. Maybe you want them to move towards the ball or up and down the pitch. So drag the players you want to be moving, in relation to the ball, and click save.

6. Now when you move the mouse over the pitch again and drag the ball from the centre ONE square to the left the players you wanted to move should do so!

7.You need to do this with all the squares on the pitch! I have found it helps to set the players in their original positions first, save, and then move them where you want and save again. When you have done this you will move the ball all over the pitch and your whole team will move accordingly, keeping its shape like in real life:)

When you get the hang of this you can create 5 different tactics. It is one of the best features of this game once you`ve got it down:)

Once you have your tactic(s) completed, you will want to try them out in a match, to select any of your tactics for a match, go to the match orders screen, and click on the "squad" button that is next to "general" and "orders", on the bottom left of the screen you will see a white box below the pitch, here select which tactic you wish to use. Click save, and then you will see an average of the 35 squares of your tactic on the left hand side of the page on the pitch.

The Office

Your office is probably one the most key pages out of your club. In the Office, there is;

Supporters Section: - Here is where you can see how many fans you have and their current thoughts on the club (supporters level)
Transfers Section: - This section shows any players/coaches you have bids on, but also the players you have transfer listed.
Announcements: - The announcements section gives you a log of any financial changes (expenses, sponsors etc.), junior changes (juniors joined your youth school or been promoted to the main squad), and also each Monday, a log of how many supporters join or leave the club.

Players Page

When you click on a player, you go to its own page. Here, there is;

Description: - Players skills, nationality, age, wage etc.
Transfers: - The transfer history of that player
Sell/Sack: - The ability to transfer list the player or to sack him from your squad.

Players Faces

If you go onto your team page, and various other pages, you will see that your play has a face (shadow for non-plus users). These faces have no effect on the game, they are just there for fun. This is a new implementation that is hated and like. If you don’t like having the faces there, don’t worry! You can change it so that they don’t appear. To do this;

1) Go to Home >> User Settings by clicking on your username.

On the page, you will see ‘Face Type’. You can make it so the faces are either;

Not shown (none) - you wont see the players faces anymore
Only Shadow - The players faces will be shown but not in full detail. You will see the background, and the shirt, but the actual face will be shadowed.
Full - This means you see the whole picture including the facial details. This is only available to Plus users.

The video beneath shows you how to get rid of the faces all together

Contact Tutors

Tutors have been introduced into Sokker. They are old fogies of the game (heavily experienced) who are willing to help anybody with subjects they are uncertain about on the game. To contact a tutor, go to your Country Page > Staff and here is the place you can send messages to Tutors, Administrators, Moderators. Select Tutor from the drop down list, then enter the message/question you want to ask, then send. A tutor then shall answer and help you.

The video beneath shows you how to get to the Tutor Page

Facebook Integration

From the news;

We have implemented Facebook connection login with Sokker. Now, users registered on facebook, will be able to easily register to Sokker by a Facebook account. The reason for this is that some data will be retrieved from facebook, so there will be no need to fill up all fields - just type team name, and play. On your user page, you are now able to link your Sokker account with Facebook and thus automatically logging into Sokker if you are logged on Facebook, or use `I like it` features (currently on player, matches and club only). We hope that it would make Sokker more popular among Facebook users. Also, in the near future, Sokker will be added to facebook applications (we have prepared special skin for facebook applications window).

To do this, you will have to ‘integrate’ your facebook account with your Sokker account. You can do this by following some simple steps;

1) Open up a new tab, and log in to Facebook.
2) Go to your Home >> User settings by clicking on your Username
3) Click on the button that says ‘Link with my Facebook Profile’

The video beneath shows you how to integrate your Facebook account with your Sokker account

Done! To test, if you click ‘like’ your club page, then go back to the tab with Facebook on. It should say on your wall that you like your team (Sokker Team)!

Nice work - finegrs crossed we get results from yer hard work :)
2011-03-06 16:37:42
Well i think the key is not trying to attract users, as that will happen naturally. It's trying to keep the ones we have.
2011-03-06 18:26:28
Aye, but we need new blood, badly! . What we have seems to be mostly safe, its the numbers we had for a while so we need more in and then work on keeping them

Users in other forums are still directing new users to robnobs beginner guide, whilst a very good read it's a bit dated now.

I suggest that you post this guide in the newbie forum for all to see and use.
