About that "support your local team" thing.. What if there is no local team? Who should one support then?

I have lived last 29 years in small (less than 11k) town and there has never been a football team, or then it's very well kept secret..
In the 1980's only football (NT matches not counted) you could see from tv in Finland was english First Division (now Premier league) and FA cup, ~15 matches per season if it was a good year. And back then there was no internet or any other place where to look footie info from other countries so starting to support english team was pretty obvious thing to do.
Thats why United became my team in 1987 :)

Very surprising it was Manu and not some smaller team :D But hey, everyone can support what ever club they want to. But that's the reason why football is not so good in Finland or some other countries in Europe. And it won't never be. Not in my lifetime anyway.

Well yeah but United was not the biggest/best team back then, not even close;) I just noticed that in that (86/87) season ManU was only 11th so if mattius calls me a glory hunter one more time I'll go and kick his ass.. ;)

Btw, I think it was sometime in the 90's when I read from somewhere that Finland is the only country in Europe where football isn't the most popular sport. That really was depressing :/ And it will stay that way unless we someday start to play in WC and/or EC regularly.. And that will not happen.
