Road to the final
The UEFA European Under-17 Championship consists of three distinct stages: the qualifying round, the elite round and the final tournament.

Qualifying round
The qualifying round, played in autumn, is made up of 13 groups of four teams playing in one-venue mini-tournaments. The top two from each progress alongside the two third-placed teams with the best record against the top pair in their group.

Elite round
In the elite round, played in early spring, those 28 qualifiers compete in seven mini-tournament groups of four. The group winners progress to the finals.

Final tournament
At the final tournament the contenders are split into two groups of four, with the top two progressing to the semi-finals, with the showpiece to follow.

Nah. We will! :D Three victories in the group play and some quite good play in the two matches I saw against France and England. Fischer, Zohore and Lucas Andersen are some players to watch for the future.

By the way they switched the semifinals so Denmark-Germany will start at 16:30 and Netherlands-England will be the early match.

I must say that I'm impressed with Denmark. Have your football association and clubs invested a lot of money into youth sector some years ago? You have lots of talented players, to name a couple - Eriksen, Kjaer, M. Jorgensen, Bendtner [:P], Nicki Nielsen...and now you get results in the u-xx competitions. Really impressive, I just wonder - porque? Like Mourinho would've said ;P

I know that Germany spent a lot of money 10 years ago and that's why they have such great youth teams and young players in senior NT. I wonder how was it with Denmark?

Hehe. No I don't think so, I just think we're lucky. Unfortunately most of them are defenders. Frederik Sørensen (Juventus/Lyngby), Simon Kjær (Wolfsburg), Mathias 'Zanka' Jørgensen (FC Copenhagen), Nicolai Boilesen (Ajax), Jannik Vestergaard (Hoffenheim), Andres Bjelland (FC Nordsjælland), Michael Lumb (Zenit/AaB), Daniel Wass (Brøndby) are all great talents. Plus Daniel Agger isn't that old.

It's hard to predict who our GKs in the future will be. If Anders Lindegaard (Manchester United) becomes the first keeper when van der Sar quits he'll be a good bid. Otherwise Jonas Lössl (FC Midtjylland), Mikkel Andersen (Reading) or Martin Hansen (Liverpool) could do it.

In the midfield we've Christian Eriksen (Ajax) and Nicolai Jørgensen (Leverkusen). But beside him it's yet hard to predict who will make it. There are a few talents in the Danish league who might become interesting, e.g. Anders Christiansen (Lyngby), Mike Jensen (Brøndby) or Mads Albæk (FC Midtjylland). On the wings people like Lucas Andersen (AaB), Emil Larsen (Lyngby) and Matti Lund Nielsen (FC Nordsjælland) are interesting.

As forwards of course we've Bendtner (Arsenal) and Nicki Bille Nielsen (Villarreal), but Viktor Fischer (Ajax/FC Midtjylland) and Kenneth Zohore (FC Copenhagen) both should make it.

But yeah - there's lot of talent in Denmark currently - I just hope that they will become more than talents. :D

At least it looks much more promising than last years of Denmark in football. :)

I wish Poland had so many talents, but it won't happen for long time...
2011-05-11 17:25:15
Yeah. Maybe that's why they're so talented: Denmark haven't had many great talents for a long time, so the clubs started playing the youngers ones even earlier - and hence they improved more :)
