Asunto: Best playmakers

I'm planning to write an article on playmakers...any of you guys willing to help with list of players and their 'characteristics'?

It might be very useful because even though I watch a lot of fooball, I definitely know a lot less about Deco than Portuguese person etc. :)

I'd divide them into deep playmakers [like Pirlo] and offensive playmakers [like Deco]

is it only current players or are you interested in players from the past also ?

I'd only include those who managed to play since 2000 onwards, instead there would be too many players to cover

Are Schweinsteiger and Khedira playmakers in your definition or only Özil, judging from the current German NT?

Schweinsteiger yes, as a deep-lying playmaker, Ozil - definitely

Khedira - not really

Khedira is more of a breaker upper lol , in there to stop the other teams playing

First you should define what in your opinion is a playmaker. Is it someone who makes the team tick, for example like Xavi, or is it the player who provides defence splitting through passes all the time. Juan Roman Riquelme comes to mind.
Should a playmaker be able to defend too or will you be evaluating his qualities solely based on what he does with the ball. How will you be reflecting on other mental en physical attributes etc? There are many questions :)

If there were no questions, then what would be the point of writing it down? ;)

There are different types of playmakers, I don't think I'm going to decide which one is best etc., it'll be more of a characteristic of best playmakers - what one is good at, what are his flaws [if there are any] etc.

imo there are 2 general types of playmakers - deep lying pms, like Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Schweini, Pirlo who distribute passes amongst the other players and decide how to proceed with the action and offensive playmakers like Iniesta, Riquelme, Deco who make defence splitting passes rather near the penalty area, try to beat the defenders in 1 on 1 actions etc.
