I’d be very surprised if form changes had anything to do at all with average form of the side so I find it slightly amusing people would try something like this and expect it to work.

It’s a free choice I guess but would have thought form was entirely based on an individual basis. Whether that’s completely random or whether it’s able to be influenced by whatever method (playing minutes/position etc) I don’t entirely know. I feel there’s an element of both. I was sure that if you never play a player their form eventually ends up in tragic form and stays there.

Hope the tactic works but I’m not expecting it to.

I strongly doubt it’s completely random but that’s just my thought (just appears completely random to us as players because we don’t know what factors go into form and how they work). If it was completely random form would be a fairly trivial fix to make (if they wanted to) or would be an easy thing to explain how it works. All I’ve ever heard is that it’s complex. I think there is an element of randomness due to various probabilities/weighting etc but until we are specifically told form I choose to believe it’s not totally random.

It's always random but imo based on chance %. The more a player plays or fulfills purpose in your team, the higher the chance he will have better form, but it is not absolute.
However...I also believe some players have a higher affinity with having lower or higher form, a bit like talent.
But whatever it is, it's always possible for a player to shift in form without playing as it is possible for the same player to stagnate in form while training and playing frequently.

But I still think the game needs a mechanism to alter form slightly by achieving certain goals and ot should be made on a personal AND a team base.
Each player should have outspoken needs, not hidden. Also, the team itself should have an achievement list which you need to reach, as being a manager. And if you succeed in reaching any of those achievements, either personal or team based, the form mechanism should be triggered in an upward base, though, still not absolute.
But the same goes in the other direction.
This will for sure push a manager to try to play for results even more.
