cambrant [del] para Todos
We are facing South Africa this weekend in the second round of the Mini World Cup.
We have played SA recently since they played in the same WC qualification group and we lost twice.
2008-01-19, South Africa - Ísland 2:0
2007-11-10, Ísland - South Africa 0:4

Island got 14 points in the qualification and we got 0.

Some statistiks:

South Africa:
Ranking No 49
Average form Outstanding (12)
Average age 22.5
Average value 3.360.000 sek
13 users

Island:
Ranking No 61
Average form Outstanding (12)
Average age 21.5
Average value 3.175.000 sek
25 users

I am a bit worried about Sa:s winger Samuel Mabizela 768707 and their striker Leonard Permall 2544892

We can put our strongest team on the pitch this time and with some luck we can beat them ;D

I will come back with the squad and tactics just before the match on Saturday.

Áfram Ísland!

Good luck in the match and since you are our NT coach one of the things you must learn is to say Go Island in Icelandic. It is like this: Áfram Ísland!

Thx :D

This is the squad today:

START UP 11:
1  Olgeir Guðgeirsson  GK
2  Gustav Sveinbjörnsson  DEF
3  Even Dybdal  DEF
4  Atli Már Thomasson  DEF
5  Finn Sjøberg  DEF
6  Atli Már Johnsson  DEF
7  Halfdan Ludvigsen  MID
8  Kristinn Sturlaugsson  MID
9  Viðar Sæmundsson  MID
10  Jon Bjelland  ATT
11  Róbert Ingibergsson  ATT

BENCH:
12  Veigar Sigursteinnsson  GK
13  Viktor Stokka  ATT
14  Þórir Þráinnsson  DEF
15  Jónharður Kristófersson  MID
16  Ásbjörn Haraldsson  MID

I have studied SA and I have assumed that they will play a 4-4-2 tactics with 2 wingers and therefore our tactic is similar to the one against Australia. We have a 5-3-2 tactic and i have put the wing dfeenders further out a little bit and i have changed the position for Sturlaugsson as well so that he will attack more on the wing than the last match.

Goalkeeper:
Olgeir Guðgeirsson will keep our goal as clear as possible. He is my first choice until Veigar gets his pace up.

Defenders:
This is our strongest part and we play with Gustav Sveinbjörnsson, Even Dybdal and Atli Már Thomasson as mid defenders and on the wings Finn Sjøberg and Atli Már Johnsson.
I hope SA will have big problems passing these guys today.

Midfield:
Here we have 3 players, as Defensive Midfielder we have Halfdan Ludvigsen and as Offensive Mids we have Kristinn Sturlaugsson and Viðar Sæmundsson.
I am especially eager to see Kristinn deliver nice passes from the sides to our strikers.

Strikers:
On top we have Jon Bjelland and Róbert Ingibergsson. Bjelland did a great match last week and Ingibergsson has been choosen to take care of Kristinns passes from the wingposition.

We shall go out and fight for a victory today…

Áfram Ísland!

I told you, if Dybdal plays, then no worries in defense:)

And now we are in the second round

Nice victory though :)

Haha, funny and Divine :D
2008-03-08 14:31:59
not necessarily. If South Africa beat us, you could still finish 3rd if you don't win by enough next week ;). Although ideally, I don't really want to be in that situation. Was hoping for the draw today actually, would have suited our purposes a lot nicer, but congrats on the win.

Congrats! :-)

You remember the sentence I wrote in the MWC forum?

Group D
Australia
Ísland
Honduras
South Africa

Probably the hardest group, Australia and Ísland are my favourites.

But cambrant is Island's coach, and I think he's a very good manager and thus makes this group! ;-)

Continue the good work! :-))

I already forgot that possibility.

OK, let´s do a sum up.

SA played with the tactic i thought, thats good.

Our Wingbacks could have been even further out because we didn´t stop their wingers good enough... forunately there were only 1 or 2 good passes from the wingers.

Our keeper saved us today i would say, he did some marvellous savings.

Our defenders did their job as they should today, a lot of shots from SA was from really far distance and didn´t cause too many problems for our keeper.

Saemundsson was veru good for us on the midfield, he did some great passes to our strikers. Kristinn a bit of a dissappointment, i didn´t see him at all, maybe i placed him wrong...

Then our strikers, Bjelland is really great but the other ones wern´t as good... I think when Thorsens form raises we have a good couple up front.

We lost the shooting statistics big today but the chances we had was of good quality.

Now we will face Honduras and If we are lucky we will go through :d
