Asunto: Ísland U21
Yesterday we drew 1:1 (0:0) with the higher-ranked Panama. Orrason scored the goal for us. We had more shots and we prevailed. The new tactic 5-2-1-2 with the winger was successful. If it weren't for 2 red cards for us, we could have won. Our players were motivated and played aggressively ;) Tonight was the draw for the 1/16 finals of the Mini World Cup U20. We will play against India U20. Our opponent is 5 places higher in the world ranking, but we will not give up and we will fight for victory!
India U20 - Ísland U20 0:0, 0:0, 3:2 o.p.
We came close to making a surprise in the first round of the U20 Mini World Cup. In the match against the stronger India U20 from the 30th minute we played 10v11 after a red card for our defensive midfielder Vilberg Theódórsson. Despite this, our players did not give up and we kept the draw until the end of the match. Overtime was also inconclusive. Penalty kicks decided about everything. Unfortunately, in our team only Orrason and Ólason scored penalties and we lost 2:3. It was a really good game. Our team played 10v11 for 90 minutes and our opponent didn't score. We had as many as 10 shots. Unfortunately, there was no luck. In a week's time we will play a friendly match Ísland U20 - Belarus U20. I hope we will play successfully in attack and win.

In the last match of 2021, we won 2:1 against Belarus U21. We played with the U20 team. We had an advantage in the match and shots (14-2). Goals for our team were scored by 20yo Þórmóður Orrason and 18yo Rafn Daðason , making their offensive debuts. We will play the next game against TOP team - England U20. We will try to make a surprise.

In the last match of 2021, we won 2:1 against Belarus U21. We played with the U20 team. We had an advantage in the match and shots (14-2). Goals for our team were scored by 20yo Þórmóður Orrason and 18yo Rafn Daðason , making their offensive debuts. We will play the next game against TOP team - England U20. We will try to make a surprise.

Yesterday, after a good match, we lost to England U20 0: 2. We played a new tactic 5-3-1-1 with the left winger. Þórmóður Orrason played in the attack. From 60 minutes on, we changed tactic to 5-2-1-2 which worked well. Orrason had 6 shots. We deserved at least one goal, but our effectiveness failed again. The first match for the national team was played by our 19yo midfielder Jón Örn Auðunnson. Next Friday we will play friendly match against Andorra U20, with whom we play every season. We lost 2:3 two seasons ago and 0:1 last season. Now it's time to win!
England U20 - Ísland U20 2:0

We won friendly match against Andorra! We played with 5-2-1-2 tactic (with left winger - Kristinsson). Defense game was great - we didn't let our opponent take a shot throughout the match. We had 1v1 situations in the attack. One such situation was successfully used by 18yo forward Jón Ingi Hilmarsson, who scored his first international goal. I'm happy with a certain victory and the lack of injuries and cards. This week, prospective 18yo defender Jón Ingi Geirsson has joined our team. Next week we will play against a demanding and strong opponent Georgia, which is 22 positions higher than us in the world ranking.

Today we drew 0-0 against the favored Georgia U21. There was no difference in class on the pitch. We played a close match against Georgia. Again, we played well tactically, effectively in defense and unsuccessfully in attack. I hope our forwards will improve their performance in the next matches. In just a week we will play the U20 match against Costa Rica U20.

On Friday, we won U20 squad against the higher-ranked Costa Rica U21 as much as 5: 0 ! This time we played an excellent match in attack and also in defense. We did not allow our rivals to clear goal situations. We have a three-game streak with no conceded goal. Our players deserves praise. Þórmóður Orrason made a hat-trick, Björn Ingi Eyþórsson scored his second international goal and Dagbjartur Dórason scored his premiere goal for the national team. Next week we will play Cyprus U20 (+2 U21 players).

We won another match! Yesterday we beat Cyprus 3:1. We played U20 team with two 21yo players. Our opponent had better average marks, but we played better tactically and created more goal situations. Each of our strikers scored one goal. I'm very happy with the game and the result.
The Copa America U20 tournament will start next week, in which we will play as a guest.
The group draw has already taken place. We were drawn from the last, fourth pot. We are in group E and we will play against Uruguay, Bolivia and Dominican Republic. Each of these teams is ranked higher than us. In the first match, we will play against the Dominican Republic this Friday.
